You can't write a query in C#, all you can do is pass the query from C# to your database. What database are you using ? You should read some of the articles on this site, I'm sure there's one for connecting to whatever DB you use.

Nope - C# is just calling SQL Server, so the syntax has to be what SQL Server expects. If you put a @ at the front of your string, as in
string s = @"this is the string";
then the only special character is to use "" for ". Otherwise, it's verbatim.

What is the reason for htis question ? Have you connected to the DB and had an error about syntax ? Where are you putting this SQL ? Are you creatings Connection objects and so on and connecting to SQL Server ? Have you tried your SQL inside SQL Server to make sure it's good there ?

This code is susceptible to SQL Injection Attacks. You inject a variable called word into the query string. You should use parameters instead. See SQL Injection Attacks and Tips on How to Prevent Them[^] it will give you information on how to call SQL from C#

I want to create some database objects (tables, stored procedures etc) from a TSQL script. The script is stored in an ASCII txt file, and was generated using the MS SQL Manager's "Generate SQL script" option.
This is my problem : the script file contains formatting (line breaks, tabs etc), TSQL comments and so forth. If I simply load the contents of the script file into a string variable, and execute this from my C# code the way I would any ad-hoc SQL command, the ASCII-text formatting breaks the SQL. For example,
"SELECT *
FROM MyTable;"
now becomes
"SELECT *\r\nFROM MyTable;"
This is not valid SQL, and an exception is thrown. If I parse out all the ASCII formatting (and TSQL comments etc), I can execute a very large TSQL script file as an adhoc SQL command with no errors. This is great, except that my stored procedures now lose all their nice formatting and comments, making them difficult to read.
So ... is there some way to execute an ASCII-formatted TSQL script from C# code without having to strip all the ASCII formatting out?

I doubt it is that because I have done that and it works perfectly. The only thing you need to parse out of the script are the GO statements as these are instructions to Query Analyzer and not SQL. The GO is a batch delimiter - In other words execute the bits between the GO statements as separate SQL commands from the .NET application.

My query looks like this
select distinct lh.id, od.storename
FROM LPNHeader lh
LEFT OUTER join LPNDetail ld on lh.Id = ld.LPNHdrId
LEFT OUTER JOIN OrderDetail od on ld.OrderDtlId = od.Id
INNER JOIN OrderShipmentLPN OSL ON LH.id = OSL.LPNHdrId
INNER JOIN ShipmentHeader sh on sh.id = osl.shipmentHdrId
WHERE sh.Id = 25
and the results are
346 SN1
347 SN1
347 SN2
348 SN2
348 SN3
349 NULL
I want to finetune this query to return distinct lh.id's, like given below
346 SN1
347 SN1
348 SN2
349 NULL
Tried distinct, group etc. I think that I am missing something, anybody any ideas. Thanks

Does anyone have ny idea about how to take incremental backups in MySQL? I am using the mysqldump command from the command prompt as follows:
mysqldump -uroot -proot --delete-master-logs qasync > backps/final6.sql
but everytime I take backup, it is the whole backup and not incremental.

I have tried all of this. But it does not work. If ny of you has mysql server installed, I would request you to try it out. This will give full backup and not incremental.

I am using .net 1.1 /sql server 2000, recently moved from the old Application block to Entlib data application block June 2005.
In all our applications we store the connection string in web.config file using custom encryption (VB dll).
ex: <add key="ConnectionString" value="2D2F447DA70A2CF1E1A61F2475B3D7F67592A67ACF108FFE9E08CFCE3C6463B5C175B6E6A5"/>
we used to decrypt the same and pass the conn string to sqlhelper. The new DAAB provides only :
Dim db As Database = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase()
without an option to pass connection string, i can use the dataConfiguration.config to store connection string but how to encrypt and decrypt. I cant use clear text for connection strings any other encryption methodology also cant be used.
Please help i am unable to find a solution, code snippets are very much needed.

Hi all,
We are writing a window service which tries to access a database server on
different network.
while connecting to one of the database it give error saying 'EXECUTE
permission denied on object 'sp_sdidebug', database 'master', owner 'dbo''.
But if we are trying to connect to the same Database with any web or windows
application it does not raise any error and we are able to connect to that
DB.

The error message you receive shows that you are actually connected to the database - otherwise it could not tell you about the individual access permissions on database objects.
The error is because the user you are connecting as does not have permission to EXECUTE the stored procedure. Check the account that is being used to connect to the database and check that account has sufficient privileges to run the desired stored procedure.

Uncheck 'Enable SQL Debugging' in Project Properties. This likely doesn't happen for anyone else because this is one of the options stored in the .user file (e.g. myproj.csproj.user), which is generally not placed under source control.
That's assuming you're getting that error when trying to debug. If you're getting it at some other time I don't know what's wrong.

This is on SQL Server 2000, I don't think it's possible, but maybe there is some way of doing it, or another better idea?
If I have two tables, and I want to insert a new record into both of them, and at the same time set a field in one table to be the identity inserted field in the other, can that be done? e.g. the SQL I'd want to work would be for example:
insert into tablea inner join tableb on tablea.bid = tableb.id( a, b, c, bid ) values( 1, 2, 3, tableb.id)
