I'm writing a deployment package for the v1.1 WinForms app I'm working on and I need to do two things:
1. Find out if the Oracle Data Provider is installed on the user's machine.
2. Find out what version of the .Net Framework is installed and whether SP1 is also installed (we need this as there is a datagrid bug which was fixed in SP1 - without it our users will get the bug in the app).
So, for the first one what I'm doing now is using the RegistryKey class in Microsoft.Win32 library to query the registry for the following path:
<hklm>\Microsoft\.NetFramework\AssemblyFolders\ODP.Net.
If it doesn't exist I can tell that ODP.Net is not installed. If it does I then get the path from the registry value (eg: c:\ora9\bin) and check for the existence of the ODP dll... is this the best way to do it or can I do it a better/simpler way? If so, how?
And what is the best way to do number 2? I'm assuming I can use Reflection to do this some way? I know I can use System.Environment.Version.ToString to get it but how do I tell that SP1 is installed?

Can anyone tell me how do I add a .Net FCL Control to my C# project.
The problem that I am getting is that I have made a control in C# by selecting the project type as "Windows Control Library", In this project I am using just a Listbox and I have not made this project as a Component.
Then I make another C# project and on its toolbar I select "Choose Item" by right clicking my mouse button. On that I see a window which shows a list of .Net Framework Class Library Components and COM components, but since my project is not a Component I don't see my control in that list.
After that I tried adding the dll of my control in the references folder of my Client project, I was able to add that dll as a reference but the problem is that since my control is a visible control, I would like to see the Listbox which this control contains, whenever I use the control in my project.
I want my Control to appear on the tolbox of my client project, I was unable to do that?I was able to implement a class as a component, and use it as a control in my client, this worked perfectly fine and I saw my Class control on the toolbox of my C# client after I selected Choose
Item on the toolbox.
Please let me know what should I do regarding this issue?

I have a big solution contains some projects of vs 2003, now I want to generate some new projects in 2005 and add them into the solution. Is that okay I have both version in one solution?

A solution exists to group projects together for hte compiler. IF you want to compile half in 2003 and half in 2005, there would be no reason to do this, none at all.

I am building application for ppc windows mobile 5 using VS2005. Windows media player was used in the application. There is no error in building the code, but as ran the program, there is error to deploy file to ppc emulator. Here comes the error message:
"Error deploying file 'E:\ppc\C#\WINDOWS\system32\wmp.dll'. File does not exist."
Actually, wmp.dll is in c:\windows\system32. I do not know how to set the project environment to fix this error. Thanks for any information.

Can you have 1.1 and visual studio 2003 and 2.0 and visual studio 2005 on one machine without everything going wonky?
And for that matter...can you also have sql server 2000 sp4 and the scaled down version of sql server 2005 on the same machine?

Yes. I have both and no problems. As far as your database question, I only have MSDE from Office 2000 and SQL 2005 and they get along, too.

 Hello
I am running a .NET windows application (memory intensive process consumes around 60MB RAM to run the process)runs slow on some Windows XP Professional OS with 512MB RAM (it takes 1hr to run the process), and runs faster on some machines with same configuration(it takes 3min to run the process).
I observed that on test platform there is no VS.NET 2003 installed. Does it make any difference?
do u have any suggestions??????????????

If you build project in "Debug" mode - try to build it in "Release" mode.

hay ,
i tried to set up saveas command but instead of writing the full path of the file at the first variable in the command , i fill in the upper directory like this :
FullExcelReportPath="Reports\\";
book.SaveAs(COleVariant(FullExcelReportPath),
covOptional, covOptional, covOptional, covOptional,
covOptional, 1, covOptional, covOptional,
covOptional, covOptional, covOptional);
but it send me an error .
it work only if i'm writing the full path ("d:\\Reports")
how can i solve it?

I am able to catch them, but the problem is that I can't see the content
of the mail, or the content of the reminder...
Maybe someone knows how I can check it?

Hello, i've made an applet on .Net 1.1, it's uploaded here:http://arkafon.com/test.html
the applet is Image editor that needs to have the ability to call the Web-Services, as well as load image from the server.
During the initial start it automatically does both of this and i get:
System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type System.Net.WebPermission
I go to the .Net Configuration 1.1 applet, and do each of these:
a) click on "Trust assembly" and put the full paht to my assembly "http://arkafon.com/ImageEditor.dll"
b) add proper code groups to enterprise\machine\user levels, and tight either to strong name or url, or whatever
none of these approaches doesn't help, what should i do?
can it be caused by my hoster, should i add something to the web.config file?
I try to Evaluate Assembly and it's written that i have unRestricted rights.
