And Christian gets the bonus points for reducing the title so it doesn't cause my browser to create horizontal scrollbars... Oh, no! The OP's post already did that.

Yeah, I figured it was a lost cause to replace the subject line, since the OP was already causing the scroll bars.

how coulc i compared password entered by user with the one already existing in the database?
|
|
|
|
|
Well, there's always ==. Personally, I think it's a good move to MD5 both, and then compare the result, but that's another story. Either way, I have to say, this is a pretty inane question. If it means what it says, you should really go and learn some REAL basic stuff before doing anything that requires a password ( i.e. that needs to be secure ).

I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction - even if it's just telling me what to search for (keep coming up empty-handed)...
My end goal is this:
enter url
get that url's html code
parse that code
insert into any type of database
I would like to search for a specific string, then save the data following it to a variable (or right to the db)
This is an example of the code I would be dealing with:
<code>
<!-- Data -->
<table bgcolor="#00427B" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="1" ALIGN="CENTER" WIDTH="95%">
<tr><td>
<table bgcolor="#FFF8DC" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tr><td width="100%">

</code>
I know it's a lot to ask - but any pointers on what to search for for such a thing?
Thanks!

Hi all;
I have written an application using Visual Basic 6.0 on a Windows XP Professional PC. The project contains a total of ten forms. When I compiled the project for distribution I noticed when I ran the program it didn't appear on the Windows taskbar like all running applications nornally do.
Normally, when you press F5 in the VB IDE you will see the default icon for the project on the taskbar and the name of the project you are running. And when compiled for distribution the applicatiomn will show up on the Windows Taskbar when started.
So my question is: How do I set up the VB IDE so that when I compile my projecyts they will show up on the Windows Taskbar?
Thank you,

The question really should be, what did you do to STOP IT from appearing on the TaskBar?
AFAIR, there is no setting in a VB6 Windows App to turn this off. You actually have to do it in code, or.....did you pick the right project type when you started the project?

To double check myself I created a new project as a Standard EXE. I added the Startup modual and the Splash and logon screens. When I run the program it should show it next to the Visual basic application that is currently running. It still will not show the application on the taskbar.
I hope this helps clarify the problem.

I think your problem is somewhere in your Startup module or Splash screen. Usually, a splash screen sets itself up so that the app doesn't appear in the taskbar until the main form is dispalyed.

I added the main form into the project I created to double check myself with. It still will not shop the application on the taskbar. The Login and Splash screen are both set to NOT show the form on the Task window. The Main form is set to show the form on the taskbar. When I minimize the main form it doesn't minimize to the Taskbar it, it minimizes onto the desktop.
Thank you,

It minimizes to the DESKTOP? Do you have some window manager or dual monitor manager installed?

The project is a standard EXE containing ten forms. It is being developed on a Windows XP Professional PC with only one flat screen monitor. The OS doesn't seem to recongnize it as a single exe application.

I still say your code is doing something to screw itself up. It's not the OS that's messing up.
Create a empty Standard .EXE project, with just a single form and no code. Run it and see if the same problem comes up.

Dave,
You are correct is was screwed up code. Another Vb guy sent me a message during the reading I found out that if you set open a form with the vbModal option the Form will not be placed in the taskbar.
So I going to have to remove the vbModal option from most of my forms.

You're launching all your forms Modal? This isn't standard practice, so that's why it never occured to me. You'd only do this for dialog boxes and other utility forms you want to have the focus in your application until the dialog is closed.

There are two parts to this. What part are you interested in: the getting the data out the database part or the displaying information in a table part? (Strictly speaking, ASP.NET only deals with the display part, it has no classes for database access as that is the responsibility of ADO.NET)
Here are some resources that will help:
* DataRepeater controls in ASP.NET[^]
* Deciding when to use the DataGrid, DataList or Repeater controls[^]
* Repeater Class[^]
* Server-side ASP.NET Data Binding, part 1[^] and part 2[^]

Hi.
How we can change the header text of the columns which r bounded from the databse
AS I donot want to show the the datafield name on the headre text of the columns in datagrid
e.g.
Dept_Code
Instead of this i want to display it as
Department Code

You could do it in your SQL SELECT statement:
SELECT Dept_Code AS [Department Code] FROM table
