I also tend to disable the shockwave flash player plugin for IE. Some sites are using Flash pop-ups that cover the page (essentially popping up over it) to advertise. Tools -> Manage Addons -> locate "Shockwave Flash Object" If it has been loaded, you should see it listed. If you haven't been to any pages today that use flash, then you will need to select the "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer" option from the "Show" drop down list at the top of the form. Once you find the "Shockwave Flash Object", click on it to select it. Then at the bottom of the form, mark the "Disable" radio option, and then click the "OK" button to save the change. The browser will probably reload the page that you're on. Whenever you want to view a flash movie, simply follow this same steps but mark the "Enable" radio option instead. Note: If you're not running a current version of Internet Explorer with the most recent patches, you may not have the "Manage Addons" option available to you in the "Tools" menu. But occasionally, i'll hit a site that tries to spread ads outside the browser window, either through pop-ups or installation of software (ActiveX)(why is it that nearly all lyrics sites try to install Gator?!). Worse yet are the dodgy ones that use various combinations of Java, Flash, and JS to try to shove their ads in my face... These end up in my HOSTS file very quickly.
