That no matter what, on any subject there will be at least two opinions in this world.
We (Me & my team) are fully convinced that Microsoft Azure's new portal (released 4* years back  ) is so much better.
It's cool and the usability of the portal is really good.
It's surprising to see these many complaints about the same.[^] to an extent to call it a complete disaster. 
What do you think?
(If you haven't used the old portal, it's okay, you could still share your opinion about the current one.)
Mainly the idea of Horizontally sliding windows, in multi-levels. The small crisp icons and fonts, the navigability, the dynamic dashboard metrics & the overall UX flow.

I remember my ex boss.
If I said that I have implemented Solution 1, he would ask 'Why did you not implement Solution 2'.
If I said that I have implemented Solution 2, he would ask 'Why did you not implement Solution 1'.
Either way, I was the loser, and he was (apparently) the winner.

Right.
That's why, more often than not, I used to have a Design Tradeoff matrix*, indicating which is the better (or best of three or more) solution. While there was not necessarily a consensus on how that Matrix was filled, it kind of justified why a solution was chosen.
* Also called Pugh Matrix.

I started using Azure about 4 years ago and resisted the new portal at first as I preferred the one I was used to. I've now forgotten what the old one was like. 
I think my customers would complain if I adopted that style of interface.

It does the job and it's fairly intuitive.
That said, some things could be better.
Like the side scrolling of blades.
Sometimes a blade fills the screen, other times it doesn't, sometimes the same blade.
There are a few different UIs for the same thing.
It's not all sunshine.
But I'm still a big fan of Azure

I feel, when MS or any other company/team put it a lot of effort in designing something usable, they deserve some applause.
I can tell you who are not liking the designs - The type of people that never like change

Consistency is key.
And perhaps get rid of the side scrolling blades.
No one likes horizontal scrolling.
I don't think people scroll back to the left ON PURPOSE, but yet they do.

thanks . Yeah long horizontal scroll hurts eyes.
And as I observe, For the number of Horizontal columns, when it grows more than 3, Azure portal jumps to Bread-crumbs UI. And focus only on the current new Columns that needs focus.
I guess it's wise than letting the user see all the pile of collapsed column frames.
