Hi all,

I apologise if this is real simple stuff, I am new to C++.
I come from a 16 yr UNIX background, so I think in script & Perl.

I am trying to check if a character in a CString is a uppercase Alpha.

if ( yousaid.GetAt(current_pos) == "[A-Z]" )

This obviously isn't how to do it in C++
Any help appreciated.

The function isalpha will tell you if a character is a letter, the other way is to get a char out, like this:

CString s("dsASdFDftSaSdAaasDdR");
char a = s[0];  // Use the index to get out the char, you can use s.GetLength() to iterate over them
if (a >= 'A' && a <= 'Z') // char automatically cats to int, which is why this works nicely.
{
    AfxMessageBox("Uppercase");
}

If you wanted to test a whole string you could do this:

CString s("dsASdFDftSaSdAaasDdR");
CString d(s);
d.MakeUpper();

if (s==d)
   AfxMessageBox("All Upper");

I'm sure someone else will suggest more intelligent ways of doing it, but those are the ways that spring to mind if you're using CString. If you were using basic_string you could do cool iterator stuff, but that is another story ( and CString is more useful than basic_string overall ).

if(_istupper(yousaid.GetAt(current_pos))is the correct, characterset and locale independent way to do it in VC++.

hi,

Please help, I am developing an activex control which is embodied in HTA file. This control has a menu bar from which I would like to invoke independent ASP page.

Does anyone know how can I load a ASP page from CDialog ?

(Choose Raports from menu and Archive from submenu --> load ASP page)

This is the last piece in my project and I am running out of time ;(

If you look at Chris Maunder's hyperlink control, there is code in there which launches a web page. You should be able to use it to launch the ASP page in your browser.

The editor of resources Visual Studio creates only 16 colors.

guyz!!

i have a main process in which i am loading a DLL using LoadLibrary().
there is one 'flag' defined in the main process that this DLL should toggle on being invoked.

now how do i make this variable common between the main process and the dll.

PLEASE HELP !!

safest thing to do is to create an exported frunction from the dll which reads/writes this variable

void SetFlag(DWORD dwFlag)
{
g_Flag = dwFlag;
}

DWORD GetFlag()
{
return g_Flag;
}

Export these two function and you should be ok.

I'm just trying to make a hello world using VC++

and after a while, I came up with that *points up*

so I was very happy and one day I went home and tried it on my borland C++ so I could impress everyone and I did the same thing and it said

[Linker Error] Unresolved external '__InitVCL' referenced from D:\BORLAND C++ 5 ENTERPRISE\LIB\CP32MTI.LIB|crtlvcl

and I don't understand what it's saying. can anyone help?

It looks like you are using Borland C++ Builder...

Then you need to tell it that it's a console application you are making, you should be able to do that somewhere in the project settings...

I did tell that to the builder

I went to "new" and then in the new projects, I chose "console wizard"

If I build an application with the settings Use MFC in a shared DLL, what versions of windows and what percentages of those installations could I expect to have the required DLL's to allow my application to work?

Any version of 32 bit Windows that has previously had a program installed which also shared the DLL and so installed it. It's not a version issue AFAIK, if you share the DLL, you'll need to distribute it.

Yeah, I understand that I am meant to distribute it, but I'm lazy, it's not a large audience and it's internal. I just thought certain distibutions of Windows may have had the MFC DLL's by default and others may have got them via Service Packs. All PC's are running 2000/NT/98 and should have installed at least one program with the DLL's included so I will just take a chance.

It was curiosity that made me ask the question.

If it were me, given an internal situation, I'd provide a URL to the DLL, and ship without it. You'd have to hope most people have it.

If it's internal, and you're that lazy, just compile your app(s) with statically linked MFC. It only adds 200k (given no COM or database code) and it's a lot safer than relying on some end-user moron being able to download/install the right version of the MFC DLLs.

Tips of toolbars disappeared???

I have a problem in displaying tips of the toolbars using MFC.

My software displays images continuously in a infinite loop.
I created 2 toolbars with style 'CBRS_TOOLTIPS' and added tips for each icons.
The images are fine but the tips disappear.

Tips come back when the infinite loop is disabled. However, I need the loop to display my images...........

Can anyone help me?

The issue caused by your infinite loop not allowing GUI (or any?) messages to be processed by the message queue. This can be fixed by making your infinite loop run in a seperate thread to the rest of the application. Look here in Mike Dunn's C++ FAQ, while not covering your problem exactly it covers the generic requirement and has pointers to other articles that will explain what you need to do.

Static Linking VC++ Lib files, to Delphi

Hello !

How can I make a Lib file in VC++ and use it in Delphi ????
I want to statically link it to a Delphi aaplication ....

I used {$L test.Lib} in delphi, but I recived this error message ..... Bad file Format ????????
