Hi Emmanuel,
First off it is best to only bother with VB.NET (VB6 = old). The best tool is Microsoft's .NET Studio. If you can obtain it, it contains its own documentation with step-by-step walkthroughs for all kinds of operations. With these walkthroughs you can create simple projects that you can then experiment with and expand.

The actual control that you are talking about is not called a popup menu, it is called a ContextMenuStrip control. It works just like a MenuStrip control. Each item on the ContextMenuStrip is a ToolStripMenuItem and you can program the click event for each one. You should be able to find more information or help on the subject if you actually search for "ContextMenu".
Hope this helps.

I have a large project (800 000 lines) in VB6 which I am attemting to convert to .NET. This project does a considerable amount of asynchronous processing, requiring the called activeX module to call back to the calling activeX upon completion of a task, or to signal that an event has taken place.
This was easy in VB6: simply pass the activeX object to the called program as an initial parameter. Subsequent return calls are made to this object.
Surely there must be a simple way to achieve this same goal in .NET? I have spent days experimenting without success.
I cannot believe that Microsoft have taken a simple, elegant and practical language like VB6 and turned into an exercise in obscure, abstract computer science!

There is no logical way to convert HTML code into a database. You have to explain what it is that you want to accomplish.

Sir/Madam,
I wanted to know the basic difference between shadows and overloads.
As show function is predifined.If I use show function in the following way.
Private Shadows Sub show()
End Sub
Private Overloads Sub show()
End Sub
Please illustrate the difference between them.Also In which situation , I should use shadows and overloads
Thanks and Regards

For example you have a base class:
Public Class Exhibitionist
Public Sub Show()
End Sub
End Class
and another class which derives from the Exhibitionist class:
Public Class SpecializedExhibitionist
Inherits Exhibitionist
---A)
Public Shadows Sub Show()
End Sub
---B)
Public Overload Sub Show( ByVal fullInfo As Boolean)
End Sub
End Class
- with version A) you can call
SpecializedExhibitionist_Instance.Show()
- with version B) you can call
SpecializedExhibitionist_Instance.Show()
SpecializedExhibitionist_Instance.Show( true )
Shadows means, that the Function "Show" of the base class is "cloaked"
Overloads means, that you add a new "Show" function with other parameters

Sir/Madam,
I invoked a component class into the solution.Then , wrote a line of code
Inherits system.Windows.Forms.ComboBox
This arises a following problem.
Base class System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox specified for class completereadonlycombobox cannot be different from the base class System.ComponentModel.Component of one of it's partial types
Please help.
Thanks and regards

Sounds like you have two files for this class, you need to set the derived class to be the same in both. This usually happens if you start with a control, the framework uses partial classes to hide all the autogenerated code from you

Sir/Madam,
Thanks for ur kind attention.I am sorry to say that I am not getting what u want to say.Problem is still occuring there.I mean , I created a component file .Then in it's code behind file , I am writing
Inhetits system.windows.Form.Combobox.
Base class System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox specified for class completereadonlycombobox cannot be different from the base class System.ComponentModel.Component of one of it's partial types

Not sure what else I can say. Your class is defined in two files, and they are deriving from different things.

how to write code to allow only numerics
|
|
|
|
|
Place the following code in the text box's Keypress event:
Private Sub Text1_KeyPress(ByVal eventSender As System.Object, ByVal eventArgs As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles Text1.KeyPress
Dim KeyAscii As Short = Asc(eventArgs.KeyChar)
If KeyAscii = 13 Then KeyAscii = 0 'Prevents the system from beeping
If KeyAscii = 8 Then GoTo EventExitSub 'Allow use of backspace key
If KeyAscii < 48 Or KeyAscii > 57 Then KeyAscii = 0 'Ignore other keys
EventExitSub:
eventArgs.KeyChar = Chr(KeyAscii)
If KeyAscii = 0 Then
eventArgs.Handled = True
End If
End Sub
Eldie
|
|
|
|
|
Eldie's strategy is correct, but it can be done with a simple function that you can then use in any other textbox also:
Public Function TrapKey(ByVal KCode As String) As Boolean<br />
If (KCode < 48 Or KCode > 57) And KCode <> 46 And KCode <> 8 And KCode <> 44 Then TrapKey = True<br />
End Function
Next in a textbox's keypress event:
Private Sub MyTextBox_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles MyTextBox.KeyPress<br />
e.Handled = TrapKey(Asc(e.KeyChar))<br />
End Sub
The different numbers in the function (the same ones that Eldie uses) represent different characters:
48 to 57 are numbers and the others are things like tabs, points, commas, etc. You can add or remove these extra numbers from the function depending on what you need.
have fun with it,
Johan
