hi,
I am trying to use AJAX for my two dropdown lists for my project using ASP.NET. On selecting an item in one dropdown(say dropdown1), the items for other dropdown(say dropdown2) should populate. Dropdown1 items are retrived from database using C#. My question is I need the selected item value of dropdown1. If I use dropdown1.SelectedItem.Value in C# side means error occurs. I need the selected item value.How can I get it using either javascript or C#.
Just now I am populating all the items in dropdown2. But I need the selected item value of dropdown1, so that I can able to filter and populate items in dropdown2 corresponding to dropdown1 item.
Can anyone help me. Please..........

This should work just fine. Are you using AJAX, or the ASP.NET AJAX library ? The book AJAX in Action has a good article on how to do what you're trying to do. Or, post some code so we can see where the error is.

If you are using Microsoft Ajax Framework you may use the CascadingDropDown[^] extender which does exactly what you are trying to achieve. Maybe it will be easier?

Guys,
We have a major problem here at work.
We installed a new product on our servers (Win 2000 server, 2Gb memory) last week, with an increase of users. (read, a couple of hundreds, not thousands)
At first sight it seems to work fine, but occasionally it crashes. other services stop as well.
My boss thinks that our code does not dispose of the connections we create, but I'm certain it does.
Also the cpu seems to be fine (so not constantly @ 100%) and memory does seem to saturate, but applications crash before that time.
My two cents go out to one of these two:
1 -> Network traffic problems
2 -> # of Oracle connections exceeded
Any tips and/or tricks or ideas somebody can give us would be great. We're kinda stuck.
I went over some possibilities already, but I always come down to the two mentioned above.

Troubleshooting a production webserver is an involved process. You may need to go through a very systematic procedure like:
1) Analyzing the file system logs
2) System Eventlogs
3) Database Performance

Stupid question maybe, but what's the difference between 1 and 2?
We did 2 already and it only gave some "unhandled Http request" error. nothing really specific.

No. Not at all. The line of demarcation between your application logging events and System EventLogs may at times be very thin. Your application would log events strictly pertaining to any issues only related to it.
If there is a generic I/O problem or load with the system, that would be caught by IIS or OS Subsystem and placed in the eventlog.

mmm, I didn't notice anything 'out of the ordinary' going on. The application seems to work fine, most of the time. We didn't see any significant errors in the application's log.
I'm trying hard to get some feedback from the users

I have a textbox in which i specify the filename(ex:sample.txt) at runtime
i want to display the full path of the entered filename in other textbox in a button click.

i tried using
Path.GetfullPath("filename");
but i couldnt get the correct path.IT HAS TO SEARCH OVER ALL DIRECTORIES N GIVE ME THE PATH....
how to do this?

I do have the following structure.
I have an page (SamplePage.aspx). In this page is some stuff. At the top there are some filter elements which can be used to filter the list below.
The list is build with an <asp:repeater>.
So, because there are many other elements on this side it takes a little to make a complete server roundtrip and to build up the hole page again. If the user changes the filter I want only to reload the list.
So my idea is to use a webservice call, to generate the HTML for the table again.
How can I do that. My first idea was to put the repeater into an user control and to load the user control dynamically from the web service method with

oUC = oPage.LoadControl("SampleUC.ascx)
But if I do so, the created object is not completely initialized. The "Application" variable of oUC and oPage is Nothing. But I can see in debugger, that the Application in my webservice method is set correctly.
Do you have any ideas how to make that working. Or do I have the wrong beginning.

I am using .Net 1.1 and I think the extensions are only available for .Net 2.0 and higher.
I have no change to migrate to a newer .Net version now.
Is it also possible to make this with .Net 1.1?

the way to do this is to put a hidden field in your page, set it's value with javascript, then read it on the server.
Or you could redirect to the current page, but put the variable name and value on the URL

Yet another idea would be to use cookies (set from JavaScript and read in ASP.NET). I would do the hidden field, though.

hi... i am designing a toolbox as like visual studio toolbox with some controls in it....
i have designed a panel too... now i need a control can be fixed in the toolbox panel...
the control that i am trying to add(inside the toolbox panel) should have drag and drop funcionality....
please advise me which control i can use inside the toolbox panel....
no tree view control suggesions plz..... my application look and feel should be same like visual stiod's.....
the control which i need should support image and name field and should have drag and drop options..
