Hi Chris,
Glad to see the site is up. Looking forward to watching it grow.
I like the bulletin board section very much. Just wondering if there's anything you can do to help prevent spammers from getting addresses from it. I've had trouble in the past from that when posting to newsgroups or other bulletin boards.
Also, I'd love to see a section for links to other web sites that developers may want to recommend. It would be great to see links to tutorials, freeware/open source libraries, freeware programming tools, etc.
...And since you asked for suggestions, I have one more. It might be nice to have some kind of collaboration page for people trying to get programming projects started or keep them going. It would allow programmers to find out what projects are out there and who needs their help working on them.
Best of luck.

Hi Laura,
Thanks for your comments. I'll look into the issues about email harvesting.
I like your links idea - it's certainly something I myself want to implement, so I'm extending an invitation to you to start off by sending me some cool links
As to a forum for discussing projects - well, that's as easy as adding a new folder!

Hi Chris,
The question I have is the following:
What safeguard is there to prevent this site from being sold for a tidy profit once it's thriving ? As we all know this has happened elsewhere and at the very least we should learn from experience.
Please do not view this as a personal attack or a questioning of your integrity, as it is not intended to be, and I do not doubt your integrity. However, time and circumstances do have a way of changing people's views.
I think many potential contributers may find themselves somewhat reluctant to contribute for fear of a similar fate for this site at some time in the future.

I think that everybody has learned from the mistakes of the past. My aim is to make this site THE best pace to hang out, exchange ideas, and learn cool new stuff. After wanting my own site for a long time there is no way I would ever hand it over to someone who did not care about the site and the community in the same way I do.
Maybe after a few more years of no weekends and nights I may want to move on to other things - but I will do my utmost to ensure that the site retains it basic raison d’etre - that of being dedicated to helping developers, not advertisers executives.

Chris Maunder wrote: What safeguard is there to prevent this site from being sold for a tidy profit once it's thriving ? So how did this work out?
I guess you still don't get your email to a .pf[^] domain so I've
answered my own question.
"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits." - Albert Einstein | "As far as we know, our computer has never had an undetected error." - Weisert | "If you are searching for perfection in others, then you seek disappointment. If you are seek perfection in yourself, then you will find failure." - Balboos HaGadol Mar 2010 |

Ah, to be so young and foolish.
No .PF domain. No yachts. Not even a second hand Ferrari, slightly scratched.
Just something that helps millions of developers each month that we're all very, very proud of.
I reckon it worked out well.
cheers

Well if that would ever happen, there will always be people starting up a new site like it has happened now, so nothing is lost in that case.

Chris, congratulations for this site!
I am sure it will be a pleasant place to visit and it will emerge in an extremely useful resource for all of us.

I really hope CodeProject makes it big. The "other" site isn't what it used to be and that's a great opportunity for CodeProject.

Chris,
Congratulations on the opening of CodeProject!
I have a feeling this site will become a preferred alternative to "that other site", which once served us well, but developers in the dust once it went the way of big business.
Starting and maintaining a source code repository is no easy task, and your efforts are appreciated. Good luck!

Thanks Ravi!
It's only gonna work with the help of some great people <g>
