i was trying to guess but i gave up. that code is just weird. Why would he use the Text property from a LISTbox on that query?

did you mistyped "cm" and "cn" ? or perhaps that can possibly be the problem?

did you just rate a solution with one star just because A MEMBER doesn't need it anymore? Do you really think none else would browse this question via google?
His answer is correct and I'll rate it 5 stars. If the question is still open, blame the admins.

SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionstring);
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("SELECT TOP(1) GroupID FROM ProjectGroup ORDER BY 1 DESC",connection);
connection.Open();
SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader();
//won't need a while, since it will only retrieve one row
reader.Read();
//here is your data
string data = reader["GroupID"].ToString();
reader.Close();
connection.Close();

Thumbs up for that answer! I would do the same. If my boss still insists he is right, then he could try making a further explanation or just ask someone else to do the job, but at least you won't be blamed if anything runs into total chaos

suppose i have 3 years of experience, the select must return me, only if i earn 3+ dollars? It really makes no sense... or perhaps... you wanted to ask for the employee that earns the better salary, even tho he worked there for less time? suppose Victor works there for 3 years and he already gets $5000, although Alex still gets $2000, even he is there for 10 years. So that select should show Victor first, then Alex?

I don't think it is possible, but who knows, right? My suggestion: put everything in a label and bold it as you wish, and since you want to edit them, put a tiny "edit" button beside the label. I know that is out of question, but this is just a comment, not a solution ;)

Try his solution, from the search i have made, unfortunently it seems that that node selection event is a client side one.

one more thing: if you want to add secutiry against sql injection to that form:
replace the
"UPDATE [nameofthetable] SET [Count] = [Count] - 1 WHERE ID = " + txtIDFrom.Text
with
"UPDATE [nameofthetable] SET [Count] = [Count] - 1 WHERE ID = @ID"
and add this line right after:
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@ID", txtIDFrom.Text));

There are some things we need to know.
- ASP.Net or Windows Application?
- Linq or ADO.Net?
- On your table, do you only have always one row with that [Count] column, or more than one row?
- If more than one row, what is the WHERE condition?

You should also blame mr. OriginalGriff, for he also pointed our friend to keep trying to run the dangerous query he has written, until he gets it working.

I do, but that is another issue. according to his project scenario, perhaps he won't need security at all.
Whatever... hope i helped him solving the problem he STATED.

that query can work, even tho it is not the best way to write it. the problem he stated has nothing to do with the beauty of his code

I agree. on the imported data, you should foresee where the contact info is and cut off that information from the output. Just as you are already starting to do on the final lines of the code you provided.
