Regarding out-of-memory, do loading on demand with the TreeView control:
1. Load the root + 1
2. in the +1, only add a stub for each sub folder if it has 1 or more sub directories, no stub fi no sub directories.
3. on expand, remove the stub and repeat - load that path, then + 1 for each sub folder with a stub.

This is called virualization and will instantly load like the OpenFileDialog control. 😊

Where is the error being thrown? Which line of code? Make sure that you "break on all errors" = Debug > Windows > Exception Settings > Common Language Runtime Exceptions = ticked (default is indeterminate). Use the "Improve question" link provided above to post additional information requested.

Also, not all code paths return a list. You should return an empty list before End Function otherwise the return value can be null.

I've downloaded your repo and had a look at your project. Let me show you the issue that I highlight...

You have 2 x TagSelect custom controls outside of your DataGrid. You bind the SelectedTags property for each to a List<Tag> collection. The property that exposes these fires a RaisePropertyChanged event if a new collection is assigned. However, when you make selections in your popup, how do you respond to changes to the selected list collection? a List<> has no events for changes... So, if your control is used outside of your DataGrid, you have no way of handling any changes to the selected list.

The reason why it appears to work is due to the internal use of the ObservableCollection within the custom control.

Tis issue is also in your DataGrid. It is easy to demonstrate. Bind the custom control to a collection in your model (which you have done), and bind that property to another column in your DataGrid you will not see any changes. The easiest way to see this is to add the following column to your DataGrid:

<DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Tags.Count}"></DataGridTextColumn>

When you make changes to your TagSelect the count does not change.

If you want to see a list of your tags in another column, look at how I use a converter to do it.

So, please, take another look at what I posted. It is a simple fix.

With respect, the code posted in the question does not use it, hence my post. I cannot see your screen and codebase, so I can only base my response on what you share and my extensive experience with WPF.

Your solution is still binding to a List<> and will not see any changes to it's contents as the List<> does not implement the INotifyCollectionChanged Interface (System.Collections.Specialized) | Microsoft Learn[^] that is required for Data Binding.

Whilst it may appear that you have solved your problem, you still have this outstanding issue to address.

In your DataEntry class, the binding is only triggered when the list is assigned to the property, not when the collection changes. So whilst it appears that it works, any changes to the list will not cause the DataGrid to refresh the cell as no notification in the binding system is received. The sample that I have given you fixes this issue. It also shows how to solve your key issue with binding to a collection, the Tags property in your DataEntry class.

It will only take a couple of minutes to create a sample project, then copy & paste the code, then run. I strongly recommend that you run the code above, then ask your questions if you are struggling.

The purpose of the solution is to resolve the question: "My problem is the incorrect use of asynchrony. Executors should work in parallel. How to implement it correctly?". It does this clearly in the second part labelled "The manager".

Create a console app, add the code, then run it. Set breakpoints to see how it does it. The key is this line:

Task.WaitAny(tasks.ToArray());

Those rules are guidelines. There are instances/exceptions, like this one that you have created for yourself. You can mark specific rules to be ignored to stop the warning(s) or compiler errors if set to strict.

FYI: CA1040: Avoid empty interfaces (code analysis) - .NET | Microsoft Learn[^] states: "By default, this rule only looks at externally visible interfaces, but this is configurable."

Then states:
"If your design includes empty interfaces that types are expected to implement, you are probably using an interface as a marker or a way to identify a group of types. If this identification will occur at run time, the correct way to accomplish this is to use a custom attribute. Use the presence or absence of the attribute, or the properties of the attribute, to identify the target types. If the identification must occur at compile time, then it is acceptable to use an empty interface."

Trouble is, attributes add extra code and reflection overhead. Are Attributes a cleaner "looking" solution? Yes. Also, Attributes can be used anywhere and require strict checking to ensure compliance, ie: extra coding overhead.

If the option is open, I tend to lean towards Blazor for the UI, then use the BlazorWebView hosting to show the view. So a hybrid model. The Blazor code is not sandboxed, I can do bidirectional interaction between Blazor and the host app, be it WPF, Avalonia, MAUI, or Winforms. But if I have to, I still use XAML with WPF & Avalonia, MVVM pattern of course!

I'm old-school, so don't use the designer window view for WPF, besides, DI + MVVM = broken designer! I still code XAML by hand. I only use it for debugging while the app is running. Even then, in a very limited capacity. The same goes for coding web pages, hate designers for them too! Have no interest in UWP apps, so can't comment.

Your understanding of "Deep Linking" is not correct. Deep links are a type of link that send users directly to an app instead of a website or a store. They are used to send users straight to specific in-app locations, saving users the time and energy locating a particular page themselves – significantly improving the user experience. To me, looking at the code posted, it looked like Web Assembly hosted in ASP.NET Core with a web API controller. If I recall correctly, the File > New Project, prior to VS v17.8 (.Net 8.0) used the word "hosted" for an option for Blazor WASM. I could be wrong...

I would use minimal APIs with WASM, much cleaner.

If you have correct dependencies, then no, you don't. It could be a breaking change that you have hit. ref: .NET breaking changes reference - .NET | Microsoft Learn[^].

Turn on strict Exception settings to see where in your code the issue is: Debug > Window > Exception Settings > tick "Common Runtime Exceptions".

If that does not isolate it, then maybe start blocking out sections of code to eliminate possibilities until the error disappears. Then you will know where to look.

Lastly, if everything fails, try reinstalling both the 32-bit and 64-bit .Net core SDKs on the server.

* .Net (core) or .Net Framework? What version?
* Are you using a IOC container ? What IOC container library are you using?
* How are you binding the views to the ViewModels? Is there a specific 3rd party library being used?

Also, what line in your code is throwing the error?

I'm not going to run and debug your code for you, you need to do it. I will point you in the right direction.

You can set breakpoints in your javascript/jQuery on the client side and step through your code.

Again, you're not handling errors, both on the client and server sides. You need to fix this.

As I said before, if you have fixed the client-side, then set a breakpoint on the server side and step through your code. If your client post is not hitting the breakpoint in the server code, then you're pointing at the wrong endpoint or there is an error preventing your posting of data.

Did you try to debug the problem? Did you set a breakpoint and step over the code? Why is the code not in a try ... catch handler to catch any exceptions thrown? Write the error to console or debug to see what the error is. Set a breakpoint inside the exception and read the error details - the answer will be there.

If you have breakpoints, and they're not being hit, it is usually a good indication that the method is not called or where you placed the breakpoint is not being hit.

The error message is explicit: "item.totalPrice is null" - ie: your price value is not set, ie, null.

Set a breakpoint where you think that you are setting the price, then when the code pauses, inspect why. This is called "debugging your code".

using var stream = new MemoryStream();

This is the same as:

using var stream = new MemoryStream()
{
 // do work here
}

The return statement is taking the stream out of scope and the stream is being automatically closed.

For it to work, you need to pass the stream in, not out...

I did create a quick MAUI app, and pointed at the codeproject home page and everything worked as expected. If your image is not showing, then I can only suggest that:
1. The javascrpt is not running
2. The javascript has a bug
3. The URI for the image is invalid

You need to set a breakpoint in your javascript and check that it is working correctly.

The first link answers that question. You need to map the DTO (Data Transfer classes or your classes in this case) relationships for Entity Framework. A required step. Once done, you can then use Include to to do SQL "join".
