You have to request the file from the web server. Use the HttpWebRequest class.

So i got this now

I think that you have to be more specific in your question.

What is it that you want to create a map of? The user? The desktop? Something else? What is it that you want the map to show?

Hi!
You can use the Environment.GetFolderPath() method with Environment.SpecialFolder.DesktopDirectory as parameter to get the path to the current user's desktop.
Then it's just a matter of Directory.CreateDirectory()...

i want to create a custom control that is rendered and binded at runtime with some datasource . If i want to use that component in PHP and ASP3.0
that control should auromatically start working and should perform databinding automatically...what should i use for this . i want to add only reference of that dll in PHP and ASP3.0

Request the page with the form, then parse the code to find the form tag and the fields in the form. Contruct the form data to post depending on the form fields, and use the POST method to send the form data in another request.

I'm developing an servie/application thats reads pictures form diferent sources. Now I need a good way stream new pictures to users as new pictures arrive.

Any one having a good idea how to implement such a solution? I appreciate any idea. Smile | :)

Hello

I don't really have a grip of what you want to do, yet I think Web Services will suit you best.

1- Make a web service
2- AS new pictures arrive to your storage -whatever it is-, update your status -maybe an xml file with the date/time and file names of latest picture?-
3- Now the client desktop app will be in contact with the web service on intervals -seconds, minutes, whatever suits you-, to read the xml sent by the web service -something like RSS feeds-.
4- Now when the client finds a suitable download, it can send a request to the webservice to stream that picture. It will be a simple matter of transfering a file, and I think displaying a picture won't be an issue.

I hope I got you right.

You have understood what I want to do, but I was hoping to find a solution without polling. It could be like watching an avi-file with only one frame per 5 minutes. Smile | :)

Or waiting for an event to trigger, and then read a new file from the WS. As I'm writing this I start to think about SQL Notification Services. Anyone that knows about it? Will it be suitable in this senario?

Streaming images is different from streaming video, and both are different from streaming live video. what are you trying to do?

A long time ago I wrote a system for collecting pictures from cameras. Some of these pictures was taken upon request from the user while others was taken regularly. I have now begun to think of a new modern version of the system. And I want a smart solution where det system knows if there is a user waiting for a picture(maybe start a new collection!?!) and when a new picture arrives it sholud be automatically sent to the user.

An ideal situation would be if the interval between the pictures can vary very much, from a few seconds to several hours.
And the next step for such a system is to provide other auto-updated data/temperature, humidity...) to the users.

My english is not the best but I hope I can make my self understood. Smile | :)

Allright!!
So, you want to braodcast a continuous sequence of still images at regular/request bases. Well!! One design model I can think of will be:
1- A Server connected to the camera(s), which take the pictures at the lowest interval supported
2- A webservice that will act as a gatekeeper to the pictures database
3- Distibuted Desktop client applications that will make the request
4- The webservice will receive the request from each Client by IP and process the Date/Time of the request then it should extract the image with the closest date/time from the database server -SQL is your best choice as you said-
5- Then the service would broadcast pictures/data back to the user
6- The user can make the client app to make regular requests -eg. 1 frame/5 seconds- with the same mechanism as above.

But I think you already have done that?? What is your question?? You shouldn't notify the client(s) if the is available new pictures because the definition of "new" is put by the client based on the last picture they have recieved. Request based service is the best model I can think of, besides terrabyte programs like Google earth and MS Virtual Earth work this way. why don't you like it?
