Honestly, if you have no idea how to do this, then the odds are good that you're not the man for the job. It's really simple, you store your data in your DB, and you write a page which changes by loading different rows from the DB, each row describing, in this instance, a car.

i am new to this kind of web design and Frown | :(

have limited experience using data bases(still working on getting better at it). you are right i mite not be the right person for this, but this is a challenge that i got, and would like to see how far i can get with it. your help would be greatly appreciated. Smile | :)

Id also love to know the answer - i'd love to pick up these sorts of job but I fail at the first hurdle (how in the hell do I market myself to these small businesses?)

Usually, the answer is that they get through on price, and it's because of inexperienced people getting through on price, that you don't get as far as you'd like.

Looking at his profile Instructor/trainer, he probably had personal contact and sold the poor sod on his ability to deliver. Bulls**t talking again or it could be that the client is fully aware of his limitations and is willing to accept the results of a learning experience. Probably paying so little that it will not be painfull to throw it away.

Well, I am not sure what '2 month of exe' means, surely you have more than two months of experience if you have a job ?

this is not really an ASP.NET question, but, I'd say the answer is, it depends what your other options are. The outsourcing world ( I am assuming from your english and lack of experience that this is where you are ), is going to come crashing down IMO, because it's based on terribly written code, bad communication, poor service and cheap prices. That can't last. I've worked with firms in India on a couple of projects, and seen enough execrable code in these forums to know this is true. But, unless you have better options where you are, perhaps you need to stay in it. If you do, then buy a few books, learn to actually program, and how to use google. From what I've seen, it would take very little to rise to the top of your field, if you're in India or a similar country. I know many excellent Indian programmers, but none of them are in India. However, I expect people like MS would be hiring the cream of the crop over there, and providing pretty stable employment.

Much as I'd wish your prophecy came true one day Christian, don't underestimate the greed and poor planning of medium-sized companies that in my opinion, keep feeding the outsourcing demand market.

I don't know. I think forums like this one will actually help these people realise how unqualified the folks they are paying, are. I think that horror stories from other companies will slow down outsourcing. The big one, sadly, is that out of work devs within these countries, will take the jobs for less, and close the gap, which will in turn, mean that there's no logical reason to outsource.

I would disagree that these forums would do any good. Pointy haired bosses don't care whether the outsourced workers are trolling forums to get the answers, nor do they care when paying for one resource that three are actually doing the work. The bottom line is they get an application that was done for x budget. When the app breaks or has to be written because of poor code, it's someone else's problem by then.

OK, well, that's the point at which my theory breaks. I do feel if I had to look for local work, I'd use posts like this one, to explain why employing me costs less in the long run. If they don't care about that, then how about some examples of code posted here where any attacker can erase your database, or gain access to it ?

I know what you mean. I had a client recently that hired some offshore workers despite my advise. Although they professed expertise during a code review I found examples where they had copied code verbatim (comments, variable names and all) from websites I was familiar with.

That being said though local resources are no guarantee either. I had a case of a senior consultant who stole the code from one client, with copyright text and all, and tried to use it in an app for another client. The sad thing is he is now the Director of IT at that company and a speaker at Microsoft events.

This is an interesting discussion but perhaps it should be moved to the lounge.

Do you want those values on the server or the client ?

you should not hardcode your url, this won't work when you deploy it.
