hai,
currently i m using asp.net with c# (2.0 framework).
Here i have a "search_ page" and "edit_ page". In "search_page", i have a EDIT button. when user press edit button, it will goto the "edit_page". In "edit_ page" i have a back button. when user press back button the content of the "edit_page" is getting cleared. but my client need the all contents as it as (textbox value,datagrid value etc etc)
i m using the coding "Response.Redirect("edit_page");" coding in my back button. How to preserve the previous page (edit page) contents?
help me.

Are you using State Management in your application ?
Use Session to store the data in the grid and repopulate your grid with this stored data(Sessio) when user comes back from edit page

We can store the query in session and Re-Pass it.
but is there any simple way to story the history or history.go or any?

Yes you can Cache the whole page
Issue will be you will have to differentiate between different users
As yours is web application n number of users are accessing the application.
can you search caching in browser ? i think that may resolve your problem.
i suggest better way is to use Session than browser caching

You could use session variables. Just a quick thought

After I posted my suggestion, I saw that sandeep suggested the same thing. Good luck to you with the Session variables. Do keep in mind to delete the session variables when done with the values.

hai paul,
please guide me.
i stored the query in a session variable (say...A)
i like to check the variable A is empty or not. If empty, i execute my normal query. Else the query which is stored in session variable A.
Now when i check the condition, the error "Object reference not set to an instance of object" is occuring. How can i check the session variable exist or not..
i tried as...
if (Session["A"].ToString().Length!=0)
{
.......Session variable query execution...........
}
else
{
.......new query contents...........
}
but it fails.
help me....

Make the search and edit pages both controls and navigate by changing which one is visible. Viewstate will do the rest for you.

Your most logical way is to write a pager control and then to ask your SQL database for only the records you want to view, and the number of pages.

why ? Grid view is the best option to display records from database and also for paging.

you have to write code for it. you can write a class where you can set a property of page size for paging, generate table on runtime based on the page size . add navigation image on table footer for navigation.

A poll is just a group of questions, which if you have users that log in, probably tracks each answer so it can work out if you answered before, otherwise, could just track totals. Which bit are you stuck on ? Is this your first time usng a database ?
