you need to buy a book ASP.NET book, you plainly do not understand how it works. Page_Load runs on the server. Then all events run on the server. Then Page_PreRender will run. Only after all these things occur, does script get sent to the client, where javascript code will run. You need to get your toolbar Id in C#, if you want to store it in your DB. OR if you are generating something purely on the client ( bizarre as that may be ), you can send it back to your page with AJAX. That would be really weird tho, you just need to realise no javascript code can hope to run, until all the codebehind C# code has finished running, and the javascript code has therefore been sent to the client, where it runs.

I am a beginner to Asp.net with c#. For all I know ,I took effort to find the solution for the problem mentioned here. I really don't know how to solve it. Therefore, I asked question to you.You expert may encourage the beginners.

Nz([fieldname],0) not working

Select MAX(UploadID) as id from fshUploadedMaster
in above query if no record then returning null but I want to replace null by 0(zero) if returning null

Use a condition on your query for example like this:

IF (SELECT  MAX(UploadID) AS id FROM fshUploadedMaster) is null 
	Select 0 as id 
	RETURN

I have a Search Engine Project . It is an intranet based application . I will have 30 servers , where i will search into the files for the particular keywords . Each server may have it's own server speed (server1 = 100 mbps , server2 = 150 mbbs ......and so on server30 = 10 mbps) . While searching to those servers which have low speed , can have the possibility to become inaccessible , in case of congestion , so how should I take into the search consideration in this case , should they be given low priority , as compared to servers having high speed . I mean , search will be done , but they will be prioritized in the order of their speed . There are few case that can take place, like , the speed is slow at the particular server , so should time slicing be done to search the keyword on all servers.(server 1 = 2 seconds , server 2 = 2 seconds ,..... and so on till 30 servers).if i found any server inaccessible or it is currently shut down , in that case after the completion of search on all servers , search will be made again on those servers , which were not available.this looping for search into the inaccessible server will be made 2-3 times.The most important thing is operatng system can be platform independent (it can be microsoft windows , unix , linux etc) . The file can be of any extention.
Now my question is , which aspects I need to concentrate on , while doing the programming .
The platform is ASP.net database is sql server.

Building a good index, and searching it accurately. The other main issue you have is making sure the servers work well together.

I have developed a project. In which i have a folder named Admin.in this folder i have some web pages too but when i publish this project and upload my project over my server then it works fine. But when i run my Admin folder web page then it throws error(Run Time).
But when i upload .CS file then admin folder webpage also work Properly..
Please Suggest me...

i want set the smtp for sending an email from admin to a user. any body know how can i do this. can u give me any information about smtp mail setting (sending email from admin to some one when he forgot the password)

you provide the username and password if you need to log into the server. Do you need to log in with outlook ?

Well, at the core, if your settings are the same as the ones outlook uses, it should be fine. How are you sending mail ?

i m uploading excel to database. the excel consist of a field "comments" which caarry more than 2000 characters. but when i m trying to upload, it takes only 255 characters and remaining are omitted. how to resolve it?. help me... thanks in advance - KARAN

you must change the type of youre Column in the database to "ntext"

I am looking for some direction, I am not sure if it can be done. I am new to ASP.net programming but have been programming in VB for years(although I am still a novice) so any direction would be helpful.
I am wanting to create a program that will go to a secure web site, login(with a provided login/pass), fill in information on several pages, then either it will be screen scraping the information from the final web page or be getting a file from the site. The final step is the store the information gotten from the site file form or a database.
I am not sure what/where I need to look for some direction. What technology/books/web sites/classes will help me get the knowledge to start creating this program? Are there certain .NET classes that allow this(WebClient,WebRequest)?
I know of other companies doing this like QL2, I want to build my own.

This has nothing to do with ASP.NET. ASP.NET creates websites, not programs that attempt to control them. You do that with a winforms app, with a web browser control on it.
