Well, let's say that I've drawn two rectangles in the report which will hold some text boxes in each. When I design the report I will place one rectangle on top of the other with no space between. When I go and view it in the report viewer on my site I see a space between both rectangles and one may be larger than the other (even though I made them both the same size in the design mode).
When I go and export it to pdf, the space may be gone but now the rectangles will stretch beyond the width of the page thus making it run over to a second page.
Obviously I'm a noob when it comes to rdlc files.

Hi, I read another thread on this topic, but it didn't seem to help me. What I'm trying to do is raise an event (that handles an exception) on a page if an exception is thrown on a class that it calls. My code is below:
** default.aspx **
Partial Public Class _Default
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Private WithEvents clsGenerateForm As SAF.GenerateForm.GenerateForm
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
End Sub
Private Sub Wizard1_NextButtonClick(ByVal s As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.WizardNavigationEventArgs) Handles Wizard1.NextButtonClick
If Wizard1.ActiveStepIndex = 1 Then
If RadioButton1.Checked Then
Wizard1.ActiveStepIndex = 2
Else
Wizard1.ActiveStepIndex = 3
End If
End If
End Sub
Sub HandleError() Handles clsGenerateForm.peHandleDatabaseException
pnlWiz.Visible = False
pnlError.Visible = True
End Sub
Protected Sub lbtnTest_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles lbtnTest.Click
Dim clsGenerateForm As New SAF.GenerateForm.GenerateForm()
pnlWiz.Visible = False
pnlComplete.Visible = True
End Sub
** extract from the GenerateForm class **
Namespace SAF.GenerateForm
Public Class GenerateForm
Inherits SAF.Abstract.DBAbstract
Private Sub CreateNewForm()
Dim cmd As SqlCommand
Dim dtr As SqlDataReader
cmd = New SqlCommand("SAF_Form_Create", connSql)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
Try
connSql.Open()
dtr = cmd.ExecuteReader
dtr.Read()
_formID = dtr("FormID")
Catch ex As Exception
ExceptionThrown(ex.ToString)
Finally
If connSql.State = ConnectionState.Open Then
connSql.Close()
End If
End Try
End Sub
Sub New()
CreateNewForm()
End Sub
End Class
End Namespace
** SAF.Abstract.DBAbstract class **
Namespace SAF.Abstract
Public MustInherit Class DBAbstract
Public Event peHandleDatabaseException()
Protected connSql As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(PUBLIC_MSSQL_CONNSTRING)
Protected Sub ExceptionThrown(ByVal strException As String)
Dim clsErrorLog As New SAF.ErrorLog.ErrorLog(strException)
Dim clsErrorEmail As New SAF.Email.ErrorEmail(strException)
RaiseEvent peHandleDatabaseException()
End Sub
End Class
End Namespace
The problem I'm having is that, while the event on the abstract class is being raised, it is not triggering it's handler on default.aspx.
If anyone is able to help, I'd appreciate it as I've been tearing my hair out for days now!

Hi
I have an asp.net timer
<asp:Timer ID="Timer1" runat="server" Interval="1000">
</asp:Timer>
however when i show it on a page i get the error
The control with ID 'Timer1' requires a ScriptManager on the page. The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it.
but i have the script manager on the page already at the top of the page
really strange, any clues would be great?
thankyou

Is it within the form tag?

yeah it is e.g.
<asp:content id="Content1" contentplaceholderid="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="Server">
<atlas:scriptmanager id="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
<asp:timer id="Timer1" runat="server" interval="1000">

It is recommended that the scriptmanager be placed on the master page, not in the content page.

I have written the following code in my aspx & asmx file. But AutoCompleteExtender doesn't seems work at all.
ASMX File:
using System;
using System.Web;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Web.Services;
using System.Web.Services.Protocols;
using System.Data.SqlClient;
using System.Web.Script.Services;
/// <summary>
/// Summary description for AutoComplete
/// </summary>
[WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
public class AutoComplete : System.Web.Services.WebService {
public AutoComplete () {
//Uncomment the following line if using designed components
//InitializeComponent();
}
[WebMethod]
public static string[] GetCompletionList(string prefixText, int count)
{
string sql = String.Format("select companyName from customers where companyname like @companyname + '%'");
List<string> companyList = new List<string>();
using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=fe-sql1;Initial Catalog=Northwind;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Password=dataformat"))
using (SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(sql, connection))
{
connection.Open();
command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@companyname", prefixText);
using (SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader())
{
while (reader.Read())
{
companyList.Add(reader.GetString(0));
}
}
}
return companyList.ToArray();
}
}
Here is the ASPX file code:
;
<asp:scriptmanager id="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
br mode="hold" />
<cc1:autocompleteextender runat="server">
BehaviorID="AutoCompleteEx"
ID="autoComplete1"
TargetControlID="myTextBox"
ServicePath="AutoComplete.asmx"
ServiceMethod="GetCompletionList"
MinimumPrefixLength="2"

I am trying to develop a concept for my back-office system so that I can define the work that needs to be done. I am not a programmer so please be gentle with me!
I have an MS SQLExpress database sitting behind my (VB.Net2) my website. The database has a table into which orders go when customers buy online.
What I want to do is to have a copy of this table on my local server and use a web service to feed the local database from the website database.
I already have a web service which takes data from the local database up to the web database. Thus my assumption that a web service would be the best way to bring data down.
So my idea is that as soon as the website database receives a new record it initiates the web service which sends the record down to the local databse. But can the website database trigger the sending down of data when a new record is added to a table?
Simple in theory but is this feasible in practice?
Thanks in anticipation.

A webservice does not push, it pulls. So, the web service needs to be on the machine that is recieving the data not sending it.
You can write triggers in your DB, and you can run .NET code in SQL Server 2005, so I don't see why this should be a problem.

Are these two databases on the same server? SQL2005 does have support for creating http endpoints, though it isn't for a novice. There is also an option to use Service Brokers to communicate between the databases, but again it isn't a novice skill.

No offensive, but maybe you should leave this to professionals.

If you just want a copy, why not just have the database back itself up to the local server periodically?

Dear all,

The data should be in a CDATA tag, and then you get it out using normal XML methods, and build the image by passing the data via a stream to it's constructor. Of course, you won't be able to display an image that's not on your file system, unless you have a custom page extension and custom handler defined which reads this data and passes it down to the client, in this case, you'd just pass the data out of the CDATA tag. Now, a CDATA section that contains binary data, would need to be uuencoded, or similar, to make all the data appear as text. So, it would have to be converted back to a byte stream of pure data at the other end.
Where is the XML coming from ?

AJAX in Action is a great book if you want to learn AJAX. If you just want to use the ASP.NET AJAX library, then the best book is ASP.NET AJAX in Action[^]
