I have a dropdown list control on an aspx page that I need to pass the value of to an ascx page that I reference by using get/set. My problem however is after after I "set" the value, it seems to reset itself back to zero when I try to access it again.
Here's my code. I'm using 2 pages (index.aspx & testgridcontrol.ascx:
index.aspx:

tgc.physicianID = Convert.ToInt16(dropDownListControl.SelectedItem.Value);

Here's my testgridcontrol.ascx page:

Response.Write(physicianID);

When I "set" this value, it's value is 3 however when I get to the line that reads "Response.Write(physicianID);", the value of physicianID is reset to zero. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

I suspect you are bnding the data to the grid every time the page loads. This will reset the value to 0.

Hi Christian. Thanks for the response but I don't think that's quite it. When I step through my code line by line, the process goes as follows:

Index.aspx > TestGridControl tgc = new TestGridControl();
Index.aspx > tgc.physicianID = Convert.ToInt16(dropPhysicians.SelectedItem.Value);
TestGridControl.ascx > public Int16 physicianID > set { _physicianID = value; }
Index.aspx > End of class
Masterpagefile.cs > (my code then hits my masterpage)
TestGridControl.ascx > protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) > Response.Write(physicianID);
TestGridControl.ascx > public Int16 physicianID > get { return _physicianID; }
-------------------------------------------------------------
By the time I re-enter testgridcontrol.ascx after my code takes a detour through my masterpage file, my _physicianID variable is already reset to zero.
I hope this helps shed some light on my issue.

I have a naive question for you. I seek to learn too, on this topic. I noticed on the Page_Load of your example, you have instantiated a new TestGridControl object and assigned it a value. But was the new instance added to the page's control collection?
Remember, your work is not yours alone. Somewhere, there are some codes written by others amongst us that depends on your work. By failing to see that you are part of their ecosystem, you are bound to break their code.

Good question  as he is creating a new instant of usercontrol and i think he would have added one more instant of usercontrol by registering that user control in aspx Expecting the result on added user control

Hello everyone,
Is it possible to make a user upload a Word file (.doc) to the server and make the server save this file as an HTML file ?
Also after the conversion while an HTML file is created also there must be a directory created at the same place with the HTML file which have files related to the newly created HTML file.

I think there are some third party tools by using them you can achieve this
Also if you have to display this document as an html then don't convert it just read the content and display it on aspx page

Hi i am using asp.net 1.1 with c#. In my application i have a .aspx with user control. its working fine in localhost. but after deployment i got the following error.

Just a guess but it sounds like you may be missing the user control assembly on the live server? Maybe try searcing for that dll on the live box and see if it is there. If it is then, post some code so we can have a look.

I have a drop down list in my asp page. when I selectg an irem and click on a button it appears in the Grid view. But when I again come to the same page and click on the same item from Drop down list it and click on button it again add the same item onin the Grid view. So I need some validatiobn that if this item appears in Grid view Don't add in the Grid view. I can use customValidation control. But I don't know how to use it.

You can aslo accomplish it by clearing DropDownlist item Before adding new Item.
Call this dd.Items.Clear(); Before adding new Item.

Hi All,
I have a Gridview in my asp page. In first bound column I have Id field. I want this column to be invisible in Gridview but when I selecyt the row i should be able to get the value of that cell. I set the Column property Visible = False. and in my code behind page
GridViewRow grow = gdProxy.Rows[gdProxy.EditIndex];
int proxyId = Convert.ToInt32(grow.Cells[0].Text);
But it doesn't work but if I set Visible + true It works. But I don't want this column to be visible in my grid view but want to get the value of cell.

They changed this in .net 2.0 so that the data in an invisible column is not accessible. What are you trying to do with the id? You can put it in the commandarugment property if you want to use it in a command button. Or use the DataFormatField and DataFormatString in a hyperlink column.

remove the column for id from the GridView and set the DataKeys property to "id".
Then you can access the id with gridview.DataKeys[someIndex].Value

It's not exactly clear what you are asking, but if you need code to break a page out of being iframed use this little bit of javascript on the page in the frame:

FormatException in System.Convert.ToDecimal(String value) means:
value does not consist of an optional sign followed by a sequence of digits (zero through nine) and an optional decimal point symbol.
Check if:
- the String to convert has no invalid chars (letters etc.)
- the String has the right delimiter for the used local settings (you can set the Culture with Convert.ToDecimal Method (String, IFormatProvider) ).
Maybe just put the string before converting to the trace so you can see the value used (or set a breakpoint).

I have a dropdown list control on my index.aspx. This index.aspx page includes a reference to a custom control (basically a modified gridview) contained within a separate ascx page.
My problem is I need the value from this dropdown list to be passed to the ascx page. This customized gridview needs to query the database based on the value within the dropdown list.
So how can I pass a value from the main page to my custom control on the ascx page?

Define a property in your customControl.
Set the value for that property in your index.aspx page (from the drop down list)

Hi all!
Sorry for my bad english!
I have one problem.
Now I working with WebInstall project which must install Web-service.
In time when my Web-service is install, installer must write to webConfig some information.
For that I need get physical patch to my IIS folder "http:\localhost\" for eg. C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\., but I don't know how I can do it!
If somebody knows how do this, please help me!
