Hi
I'm calling a web service through my aspx file, the web service is doing some huge operations [takes min 10 to 15 min to complete]. In the mean while the UI page [aspx] returns error "The Page cannot be displayed".
How can I resolve this issue??? Please state your comments...Thanks in advance.

From your description, one of your ASP.NET webservice can work well (can
view error info when turn off customErrors...), but always return "page can
not be displayed..... error when move to a deployment server, yes?
As for the <customerrors mode="Off" ...="">, it only ensure that when there
is unhandled exception occurs in ASP.NET runtime, it'll be displayed on the
web page with detaield error info... However, since the ASP.NET web
application will recieve request from client browser , then IIS server and
finally the asp.net pipeline ... , there could have some exception or
error occur before the ASP.NET runtime handle the request, in such cases,
the error info can not be captured by customErros page.....
So for general troubleshooting, I would suggest first try putting a normal
HTML page in your asp.net app's virtual dir and visit it to see whether we
can view it correctly(see IIS works well or not...). Also, the IIS log
under %windows% \system32\logfiles is another thing we can check , please
also have a look to see whether there is error entry mapped to your request
to the webservice...

Hi Satips,
The error has been captured in HttpErr1.log file. Error is "Timer_EntityBody". Can you briefly describe how can I resolve this???

The connection expired before the request entity body arrived. When it is clear that a request has an entity body, the HTTP API turns on the Timer_EntityBody timer. Initially, the limit of this timer is set to the ConnectionTimeout value (typically 2 minutes). Each time another data indication is received on this request, the HTTP API resets the timer to give the connection two more minutes (or whatever is specified in ConnectionTimeout).
Becouse in the web.config file you could have set the time as 20 min if i m rite. Please check it out and change the timeout time.

Think about calling your Web Service asynchronously and having it return status when it completes. It is EXTREMELY bad practice to tie up your application waiting on a 10~15 minute process to complete.
Think of it this way; You have 100 users that hit your application and run this Web Service method. For every user, a thread is used to the worker process AND another thread is used by another worker process for the Web Service (if the web app and Web Service are using separate Application pools... so, you are using roughly 200+ threads and blocking tons of calls for this long method. Now, if you have other web applications in the same application pool, they are also going to be blocked because the worker process is going to be waiting and waiting on all these calls to complete, meanwhile it is queuing up more calls. See the pattern here?
Call your Web Service method asynchronously and then move on to other things. when it has completed, then you can update your page in some manner.

I think the Datagrid is not returned by the function UpdateCommand. Hence it's throwing the error. Do check whether it returns any DataGrid1_UpdateCommand.

I have a webservice method that throws a soapexception if it has any errors, but when I test the service via the services.asmx?op=webserviceMethod page and an exception is thrown the web page shows a 500 error. I expected it to show some xml with the error message I created, but maybe I'm missing something.
Question: Is there a way to view the soap error message (xml) thats part of the SoapException instead of the 500 error?

If you modify the auto generated class that wraps the web service you can get the raw xml. I was more or less just curious about whether or not the detail I added to my soap exception was being sent to the consumer correctly. See OmegaMans article

Probably a simple question.
I have a form with a search button. The click event of the button calls a method for preforming a search. The search method returns a collection of business objects which I bind to a DataList.
The binding only appears to work properly when done in the OnInit event. That's fine.
The issue is in the order of the events. When the user clicks the search button the buttons click event isn't fired until after the init event.

I need to trigger a second post back to get the OnInit to fire again. Or do I?

Doing ASP.NET for several years, I never needed to handle OnInit(). Is there a reason you use it?
Usually my code looks something like this:

Reading the MSDN articles I was under the impression that dynamic content (in this case the template of my DataList has a custom control) needs to be created during the init event.
But, if you say you can do it through the Page_Load I believe ya. However, so far that has not worked.
This is what I have now tried:

I guess you need to do something like this:

That got it!
I was actually already doing this when I first started, but nothing was showing up. Turns out the problem wasn't the order of where I set my DataSource but rather where I render my HTML in my custom control (the one in the template of the DataList).

I am using ASP.Net 1.1.
I just want to get idea about AJAX with ASP.Net 1.1
Say for example, I have tmp.aspx which contain one textbox, a button and one lable. Now i want to print address from database on base of textbox value on click of button without server trip with AJAX. I have a function "GetAddress(String name)" in tmp.cs. So could anybody direct me how can i call this function using AJAX on click of button to save round trip.
Actully I have tried by assigning label using XMLHttpRequestobj.responsetext but whole response is coming. i just want to excute one function on button click thats it. Please direct me.
Actully this is not my actual requirnment but if i get this solution then i can handle any requirnment about AJAX.

I have a database in which I store the items that a customer added to the shoppingcart. Now I try to get the data and put it into the shoppingcart when the user loggs back in and there were items he didn't purchased yet but left in cart last time he was logged.
It will display the right quantity of each product, but it shows the Name and price of last recieved product in my ShoppingCart display on all products.
