Last week I posted about the need to set up a Bluetooth to Bluetooth connection from the Hi-Fi to my Android, but all suggested solutions failed, some at the first hurdle - "This product cannot be shipped to Cyprus". I therefore decided to take a different approach, and use LPOW technology.
The process first required a trip to the shed, and bury under eons of "It might come in useful later" stuff, to find the graphic equalizer that I discarded when I got an active crossover to drive the speakers through a matched pair of Mark Levinson's. This was then inserted into the chain after a passive preamp to select the source, and drives into an active class 'A' preamp to stuff lots of power into the MLs - peak power 1700 watts per channel times four channels... 
Now I can plug in my Stax and listen with the audio shaped to match my degenerated hearing. I must confess that during the process the technology became LPOFW  , and when my wife got home, though she didn't say so, I suspect it became FLPOW tech, as in "That's not staying there!". 
So I guess it was actually FLPOFW tech, in the end - but it works just fine!

I guess not, but living in a semi-detached place with nearby neighbours I have no need for 3200 Watts of stereo system though.
I will stick to my HD-650's for now.

Fortunately, we have a stone built detached house, with one metre thick walls, and our nearest neighbor is 50 metres away. Mind you, they do know when the Wagner goes on!

Maths a bit off there - try 6,800! That is peak power, though. The sustained RMS value is a mere 400 watts, but the amps have a huge power supply, with a 1.2 KVA toroidal power transformer, and storing 230 Joules. The power is mostly to render musical transients instantaneously and cleanly.

I did spot the peak-power bit, but my maths is always off. Do you remember the old "Amstrad power" music systems? I can't remember for sure but I think a 100W Amstrad amp was around 10W RMS. Wasn't it called Music power or something like that?

Yeah, folks used to lie a lot about their amp's power output. Calling a 10 watt RMS amp a 100 watt 'music power' amp is theoretically fine, but how long can it handle that before either the output transistors burn out, or the power supply can no longer deliver that amount of power? According to the spec, my toys have eight 200 watt, 15 amp, matched power transistors in each channel's final output. They can put out 29 amps at 58 volts peak power (=1682 watts) each. The power supply can hold that for a reasonable amount of time, but not forever.
However, as the system is bi-amped with a stereo amp for each stereo channel, half driving the bass, and half driving the mid range and treble, and as the power requirements of bass and mid-range/treble have different characteristics, then you can get much more bang for your buck out of the power supply.
Back in the dim distant past a bloke called (I think) Carver pioneered some hugely powerful amps that had no power transformer at all, but drew their power requirements direct from the mains. They never caught on in a big way, and soon went the way of all flesh.

No, I'mm 1,100+ km away and just in case have installed a running helicopter on my roof to drown the skank out.
Seriously considering a trip to one of her matches in the next couple of years. Might do 2019 as it is the first after my 50th, just so I can stand up mid point and throw all the elephants and sunshines in before I am dragged out.
