Database:Oracle
Drag and drop the gridview on ASP.NET webform.
Right clicked on gridview and selected show smart tag.
Tried to configure the database.
Tables present in the user (mentioned in connection string) are not visible in drop down.
Although working fine when I try to use Query option.

your best bet is to abandon all these wizards and try actual programming. That way, you have control over what is going on and can fix it easily.

U r right. I had to ultimately switch over to manual one only.
But I saw the following loopholes in manual mode:
1. Row_updating event happens but not row_updated. same holds true for delete also.
2. Moreover, wizard helps you to generate code for update, delete, etc, but manual takes lot of time.
Plz see if you know the solution of any of the above point.

I don't follow this.

Any code that places the SQL in the presentation layer, is not production quality ( in fact, it's a mess ). That's one more reason to never use the wizards.

Hi
I am developing a web application which is an intranet site using asp.net and c# and Sqlserver2005. It holds all important data about the employees, their leaves, salary, travel expenses ........ It has session timeout (it means if the portal is idle for sometime the session gets expired). The session timeout is 20mins. Even if i increase the time it is not getting effected. Is it a good practice to remove the session timeout(the session never gets expired)
Thanks and Regards

No, it's not. Indeed, you shouldn't be storing much in the session anyhow, perhaps just an id or list of ids. If you need to get the employee data, you should pull it from the DB.

I think you've got it backwards. The major drawback of the session is that it uses resources. You never want those resources to be used forever, which is what you're advocating, and you want to limit how much you use those resources, which means using the session only when you have to ( for example if you store an id in the session, you can get all the other info direct from the DB )

I am unable to understand frankly speaking what you have answered.
May be am not clear with the question i have posted.
I want to know why it is not advisable not using a session timeout.
Bcos i am going through few sites where the session never ends. So in my web application what could be the problem if i dont use the session timeout.
Thanks in advance

Because the session object should be avoided at all costs, and because you certainly don't want a situation where every user fills the session with data that sits there forever, taking space on your server.

How weird. Why are you using a webservice ? How does that make any sense at all ? What does 'not working' mean ? Do you have any idea what this code does, or did you copy it at random off the web ?
I would guess that assuming that you're supposed to write local webservices to service AJAX calls now, your issue, apart from how wasteful this all seems to me, is probably that you're using a local file system path to the asmx, which is obviously retarded.

I don't know, I prefer to write my own AJAX code instead of putting on a Microsoft straightjacket. But, as I said, I think the reason it doesn't work ( although it's hard to tell from the lack of info you provide ), is that if you use a webservice, you would need a URL to the webservice, not a local path.

I cant see any way around this other than getting the host to trust my assemblies or you allow partially trusted assemblies in your assemblyinfo
