Many times i came across situations where multiple users updates the same set of records at the same time simultaneously. And i also came across situations while i am selecting a set of 100 records another process should not pick the same set of records.How to Implement this???
Can anyone explain in detail about DB LOCKING and how to retaining DB Integrity..
Whether to apply in Application end while querying or at DB end. And how to test whether LOCKING is implemented or not???

if you want to do atomic operations on db then see "transactions".
But I have never used... Just wanted to say that all i know about them is that they provide u atomic operations
CREATE PROCEDURE DeleteEmployee ( @EmployeeID int )
AS
BEGIN TRANSACTION -- Start the transaction
-- Delete the Employee's phone numbers
DELETE FROM EmployeePhoneNumbers
WHERE EmployeeID = @EmployeeID
-- Delete the Employee record
DELETE FROM Employees
WHERE EmployeeID = @EmployeeID
-- See if there is an error
IF @@ERROR <> 0
-- There's an error b/c @ERROR is not 0, rollback
ROLLBACK
ELSE
COMMIT -- Success! Commit the transaction

A transaction makes a group of operatons atomic, I don't think it locks the tables in question.

I want to make a mail server in asp.net with c# .net. a mail server like yahoomail or gmail through user can regestered and
can send & recieve mail. is it possible. if possible how?
|

You don't mean a mail server. You mean you want to write a webmail client. Of course, that's actually pretty easy. You do need a mail server through which you can send the mail, and you need to be able to create mail accounts on that server, but those are not ASP.NET tasks.

I have two dropdownlist.one for country and second is for state.when I select country its state will be bind in second dropdownlist.but i am getting following error here.I do not want to set enableEventValidation=false in page directory.
can any one tell me why this error occurred?
<br />
Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using <pages enableEventValidation="true"/> in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.

Look around you. Everyone has an urgent question.
You're going to do this with javascript, and if you want to do a save, you'll have to use AJAX, I reckon. There are controls you can buy that do this, I'd say they are worth the money.

Hi,
Any one please give some solution.
I am using a web service which return me the premium value in string format as 2345,564(German Currency Format). Now I have to divide it by 12/6/4 to calculate the premium on yearly/half yearly/monthly basis.
After dividing the resutant shoul be converted into the relevent currncey format i.e German or English.
2345,564 is 2345,564 in English culture.

What does this have to do with ASP.NET ?
Sounds trivial, in any case. Why are you stuck, on what bit ?

Hi all!
How can i reset the query string without redirecting but using postback?
From = ".../Main.aspx?Results=1"
To = ".../Main.aspx"
So when i click a button it does the above without redirecting it;
"response.redirect("Main.aspx")
Thanks in advance!

Jensen

Hi Guys/Girls,
Have been beating my head against the wall over this one for a while, and have come to the conclusion that I have probably just overlooked something simple. I am happy to look at alternative methods to open the popup page, but would prefer to keep the existing method for the download of the file.
Here's the situation:
In the on-click event of a button I do some processing, then want to do two things (in no particular order)
1. Pop up a window that opens a page that displays a crystal report as a PDF (this page exists and works fine in its own right)
2. Download a file. (this function also works fine in its own right)
Here's the rub:
Currently, I use response.write to trigger the page popup like this:
Response.Write("<script language=javascript>window.open('pagename.aspx?ReportID=49&Param1=" & intParam1 & "','new_Win');</script>")
(I can't attach it to the link attributes as the param1 needs to be generated by the processing in the existing on click code.)
Then, I use functions that end up calling the following code to download the file:
<preprocessing happens here>
With Response
.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment;filename=" & strFriendlyName)
.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
.BinaryWrite(btFile)
.End()
End With
Naturally, with the code as it stands the system throws a hissy-fit as you can't use two responses for the one page (by design). Surely there is some way for me to open the crystal report/pdf viewing page in code without using the response.write or response.redirect, that will allow for the processing of the rest of the code (and hence the downloading of the file)???
As I said, I have probably missed something incredibly simple, and you ASP.NET gurus are going to go "silly bugger, why don't you just open the popup by using XYZ"... I am prepared to wear that!
Thanks in advance...
D.

You can't.

That's correct.

No. If you send the file to be downloaded in the response, there is no way of sending anything else what so ever in the response. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zip.
You have to make two separate requests to the server.

That's what I was afraid of...
Is there some way to trigger the popup form (other than using response.write) so that I can still use the response for the file download, or am I just going to have to redesign the process?
Thanks for taking the time to answer...

You have to send two requests from the browser. You can either send both requests from the same page, or let the popup page send the request for the download.
It can't be done the other way, though. The request for the download is a dead end, and can only return the data for the download, it can't cause another request.
