i have a windows service which request a webservice. The windows service gets the url of webservice from application configuration file( i.e appconfig file) now how can i write to app config file from setup and deployment project(i.e the installer).
pla help me

In order to accomplish this, you will need to create a custom installer class. This can be a separate library or a class in your service. Within you installer class, you can write to the app.config after it is installed.

Just a note, there are not a lot of articles on the subject.

Windowless Program

What options are there to create a windowless program? For example the desktop clocks and calendars, which have no "window" or borders. Is this a transparency setting? Or how can this be accomplished? Any tips, hints, or places to research would be appreciated. Also how do you mount the program to the desktop?

Dear Friends,

I have a problem, i want that user can upload file to my web page(for eg then can add picture) and then i want to display the same file in my webpage after the uploading of that file...

second thing i want to do is that user can write comments in my webpage so i want to display that comment in my webpage....(just same as i am writing a question now and then it will display at the codeproject webpage)

Plz help...

Use fileupload control available in vs.net 05 and set the properties of that control to save files...
also save file paths in db so that when u want to show the photos just show them using the file path saved in db

and for your comments i think the approach to save in db first and then display it on the form is a better idea

Hi, I'm working with huge double arrays (300x300 or 640x640) and I need to write them to a txt file, but it takes too long...
Anyone knows a way to write the arrays faster? Confused | :confused:

It doesn't matter if I have to write them in another format.

if speed is important, choose a binary file, not a text file.

foreach (double d in myArray) binaryWriter.Write(d);

If you don't much care about the format of the file, use Serialization (with a binary formatter).

Look it up in MSDN, or articles here.

Hi, thanks for the help.
The thing is that i want to write these arrays for easy visualization. Writing them to a txt file seem easy to me to read and compare between them by eye.

This works without any problems:

TcpChannel myChannel = new TcpChannel();

ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(myChannel, false);

ICustomer objCustomer = (ICustomer)Activator.GetObject(typeof(ICustomer), "tcp://localhost:8000/Customer.rem");
BindingList<ICustomer> customers = objCustomer.GetCustomers();

My form has a binding source which I set the DataSource property to the customers object. The form also has a Binding Navigator which pulls form the BindingSource.

If I set the AllowNew property on the customers list to true I get the "+" icon on the BindingNavigator. Exactly what I want.

However, when I click that icon it attempts to make a new object of the interface type ICustomer. Obviously not possible.

So, I handle the AddingNew event of the list with this:

void customers_AddingNew(object sender, AddingNewEventArgs e)
{
    ICustomer newCustomer = (ICustomer)Activator.GetObject(typeof(ICustomer), "tcp://localhost:8000/Customer.rem");

    e.NewObject = newCustomer;
}

Sadly, that gives me the error:

"Because of security restrictions, the type System.Runtime.Remoting.ObjRef cannot be accessed."

I've read up on this err and found that if you change the typeFilterLevel of your remoting formatter it would work. I'd prefer not to do that.

If they changed this behavior in .Net 2.0 than it was probably for a good reason. There has to be another way to do this? Is it not best practice to code towards interface types? What's the solution for dynamic lists over remoting when using interface types? Confused | :confused:

I need to develop a program that will automatically find all the entries of another program in registry and automatically delete those entries.

Currently, when some installation problem occurs, i can neither install nor uninstall one of my developed software. So I need to manually remove all the entries from registry. I need to make it automatic by running a C# application. Can anyone help me in this regard?

One more thing, i don't even know accurately which files to delete. I usually search registry by the software name and remove them from registry. Now how can i implement the whole thing ?

Please help me in this issue. thanks...

Error building C# control library

When I create a new VB control library, it creates a skeleton, which Builds fine.

When I create a new C# control library, it creates a skeleton, which gives the following build message:

Warning 1 Invalid search path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\Lib\' specified in 'LIB environment variable' -- 'The system cannot find the path specified. '

I've searched the project, and nowhere is this path referenced. The project properties LIB path is blank.

I am using VS.Net 2005.

Any help?

Taking a wild stab in the dark, i'd say that your LIB environment variable specifies that path, and that that path does not exist.

Environment variables are configured through control panel, system, advanced, environment variables.
