Cool.
Just don't do lots of processing in the Application.Idle because it gets fired everytime the app is about to go idle, so you'll just max out your cpu if you put lots of work in it because it will just keep getting called over and over.

if you use timer to count down then in each Tick the App fire the Idle event.
then I would suggest not to count down rether use the intreval and fire your event on the Tick;
Plus since there is cross-threading issue use Bool (i.e. ISTiCked) to set whether it has been ticked and in ur App.Idle even fucntion check for (true/fals) in ISTiCked.

Hello,
I have a order string where a user shipping, billing and product details are saved and then passed to the webservice to process it.
Rightnow i am stroing the value in a string and store in a session variable to be used at multiple other places. I know the size of the string can be large enoughf hence no issues.
But would like to know what will be the best option to perform this type of Job?
I want to retain the value of the order string in different aspx pages.
Please suggest

I think session would be the best method. Also this question has to be in ASP.NET forums.

Yes true. My mistake

I would tend to pass it on the URL, rather than use the session
Yes, this is indeed the wrong forum.

Read this[^]. It's urgent too
harithadotnet wrote: i want to update all records date as dd/mm/yy format
I guess it's a presentation issue. Let SQL server stores date in it's own format, you convert the format using CONVERT function when selecting. Read this[^] to get an idea.

C# does not do anything optimised to load imags. Multiple your width x height x 3 and you have the minimum number of bytes needed to load an image. No way around that without seeking out some sort of third part tiling library

A possible way to load large images would be to convert the file to a BMP or similar, strip out the header, and then use a FileStream to read a block of bytes (you'll need the width of the image, which you can get from the header). Then you'd have to turn your bytes into a bitmap. In a windows bitmap, there should be three bytes per pixel, and in the order BGR.
Of course, there are a few problems i see. It will probably be quite slow, rather difficult, you'd have to be able to convert the whole image on the fly before using it, again, thats gonna suck up some time, especially with such HUGE images.

Hey guys,
ive been developing a pretty involved software package for the time and attendance industry, now the boss wants this application web based(ASP)...
Is it posible to convert my currenct project to run as an asp website or do you think we should hire an asp.net programmer to rewrite the front end for asp?
the problem i have with rewriting for asp aswell is that now im sitting with two of the same programs on two different platforms that needs to be maintained... id bet thats going to be a major head ache!
thanx

i m afraid but u have to implement it again in asp.net
and it will be easy if u implement your application as a multi tier application

AS someone else said,if you developed the first app properly, all you should need to do, is write your presentation layer and use the same middle/data tier. But, web sites being stateless, it's never as easy as all that, you basically need to re-engineer your middle tier so that it plays nice in a stateless environment, and write a front end. There's plainly no automatic way to do this

thanx Christian...
i didnt think it would be that simple, but it doesnt hurt to ask!
my application is broken up into 4 tiers(i think) as you call it... Theres a front end(the part the end user will work with), server service (this is mainly for all the instances of the applications to be able to talk to eachother), communications service(this service gets data from external bio metric scanners) and a SQL database.
so ONLY the front end will need to be rewritten for asp... right?
now a different question, im still in the process of developing this entire system... do you think i should get the asp developer now to start off with the web based front end OR wait until there is a release able version of the winForms version before kicking off the asp version?
thanx

Most people will say 'yes' but the truth is, odds are good your client side app relies on keeping objects in memory, which won't work in ASP.NET, so you will probably have to retool some mddle tier stuff as well.

I would get him started now, so he can guide the development of the middle tier, if it's still evolving, to suit him better, or if it's finished, he may as well get started, so that the changes he has to make to the middle tier can be worked to also fit with the winforms app, prior to release.
