Hi, everyone. I have a new computer in my office running XP Pro. It does, of course, have the usual administrative shares, including C$. However I am unable to go to another computer running Windows XP, 2000, or 2003 and map a drive to my C$. This is true even though both computers have an Administrator account that I am logged into. When I try, I get continually prompted to enter a user/password, and no matter what I enter, including Administrator with its correct password (same on the two systems), I get a message back that it is invalid. I'm stumped.
I can create a share of my own and connect to it with no problem at all. But I can't map to my administrative share. I know it is not a limitation of XP Pro because my old computer had the same OS and could do it just fine.
What do I need to do to get it to work? Any help, please?
Thanks

I find this to be the case if I'm on a domain, but if I log one of the two machines as a user on that machine, then it works. I don't have a central server, just an ad-hoc network, but the two machines are notebooks and set up for the domain at work in the default logon.

I recommend you to check for 2 things:
1. Make sure that your administrator account have the same password on each machine.
2. Did you make any change to the security tab or share tab of your C drive property dialog box? Make change to the permission of user account might affect your permission to access the resource over the netowrk.
Good luck

In my opinion, drive is not relate to the battery. Try to find any option in the control panel. Maybe you made change to any configuration that might prevent your computer to chart during the time that you use the computer or check an option in CMOS, if there are any option that relate to the battery. Hope this would help you!!!

You can download all drivers for your laptop from Dell. Bu I think there doesn’t exist a driver for ‘charge-battery’
I myself own a Latitude D600. I don’t have such driver, but the battery charges as you would expect.
One simple test: Does your battery charge if the laptop is turned off? This way no drivers can be in the way. If not, your battery could be broken.

My laptop doesnt charge if I turn off, and I always must connect with adapter to work with laptop, if i disconnect charge adapter my laptop shut down. Same time battery is in it's place for charge but again it doesnt have charge....

Looks like your laptop is broken. Time to call Dell...

Maybe I should or I have to try installing again WinXP-Pro.

*sigh* Windows and drivers have nothing to do with power getting to your battery. Is it removable ? Is it plugged in properly ? If so, call Dell.

I also own a dell laptop too. My laptop is Dell C600. I think this might be relate to the quality of the product (dell laptop). Try to contact to dell for the battery replacement. It is not relate to the driver. But I recommend you to remove the battery from the laptop or any electronic device if you know that you don't use it for a long time. For a laptop if you know that you won't use it in the future longer than one month, then remove the battery from your laptop.

Why does drawing in windows 98 get distorted from cdc operations?
Sometimes the bitblt and fillsolidrects draw nicely but sometimes it is very distorted.

You should set the StretchBltMode to COLORONCOLOR to get the best possible result. Otherwise, it should look fine.

Hi, can anyone tell me, what is the benefit of learning assembly programming language? If I learn vb.net i will be able to design an application with a greate visual interface. But if I learn assembly programming language, what is the possibility that I could do after learning it?

Can you give me an example of the program that deal with the hardware? On the other hand, I heard somebody told me that assembly programming could be written as a virus or we can become a hacker after we learn assembly programming. I don't want to be a hacker but I wonder this opinion is right or wrong? Because I try to look for the sample code of assembly programming in the internet and i don't think that it could be powerfull like that... Any idea or comment???

Just about any sort of hardware drivers.

You could be a virus writer with C# as well. It is possible to write a virus using VBScript or VBA code embedded in a Word document. (That's why virus checkers will check word files)

Assembly is very powerful if you know how to use it. I wouldn't recommend it for business applications but it is possible. Assembly language is essentially a one-to-one relationship to machine instructions. Each assembly instruction translates to one machine instruction - which is why it is so useful for dealing with hardware.
I don't know if that answers your question, but I hope it helps.

Thank you very much colin. That make me much more understand.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I know some function of VBA, VB6 and VB.Net. Currently, I'm developing a database application in VB.Net and SQL server. But the reason that I ask about assembly programming because I want to learn about the computer security. I want to write my own anti-virus application that prevent virus attack from a network or the internet. But my teacher told me that, before you prevent a virus or hacker, you must be a virus writer or hacker yourself. That would make me know the behavior of the virus or hacker does. He ask me to learn as much as possible about assembly programming. He said that it is a powerful programming language. Now I just bought and read from this book[^] and start from chapter 1. Do you have any idea about that?

At it's core, I would suggest the jump from VB to assembler is a huge one. You should perhaps consider C++ first, to at least understand how a high level language manages memory and so on, before trying to use assembler to do anything.
If you use C++, assembler becomes more useful because you can embedd it in your app.

Thank you very much for your comment. I used to learn C++ for the last 3 years but now I forget it. During my study progress, I found that C++ is very difficult to study than VB. But I think because I'm lack of resource of learning C++. If it is possible, you could recommend me any resource that I could learn C++ very effectively, and a recommend C++ editor that I could use to compile the C++ source code very easily.

Visual Studio is the obvious answer. If you want to start slow, buy 'Teach yourself C++ in 24 hours'. That was my first book, and 6 months later I had a job writing C++.
