I don't know how stuff works inside the motherboard. I can point out a north/southbridge, but that's about it.
I will probably never go AMD since I have a SB Live and have no desire to go into that quagmire of hardware conflict. Unless there's an Athlon chipset manufacturer comparable to VIA that I haven't heard of...?

I run an Abit KT7 (Via chipset), and I have a SB Live. I have NO problems with anything. I'm even using the drivers that came with Win2K...

Me as well (KT7A, SB Live! Value Edition). I've never noticed any problems neither with W2K nor WinXP.

Very good!
I don't think those who did't know computer hardware well can write out
very good codes ,specially in some fields.

I have a Gigabyte GA-7VTX motherboard, which uses a Via chipset, and a SB-Live Plat. I have no problems at all.
I even have a GeForce 3, which I've heard can be a problem with Via as well.
Maybe its just the hybrid, AMD/Via Northbridge/Southbridge combinations... ?

Thats how you make software. All this time I had been using a computer when all I really needed was pencil and paper. How silly of me

Really, I would like to forget about that un-sexy hardware knowledge and just do programming at all; but somethimes there is now way around of getting my fingers dirty and do some hardware assembling...
And certainly without the HW knowledge, such t-shirts would become obsolete.

Yeah, I know what you mean, on all fronts. I like being able to build my own PC's ( which is no big deal to me, I was shocked recently when a programmer friend asked me to show him how to put a stick of RAM in ), but I always end up with cuts on my hands and a scowl on my face.
I love that t-shirt though - I nearly bought one, but settled for 'Codito Ergo Sum'. I have the other as a sticker on my PC instead....

Soundz like me.
I just buy a box now and it works, why worry about hardware.

You are missing out. There's nothing like undressing your computer and upgrading the CPU, adding a DVD-ROM drive, or putting in a new hard drive. I love the scent the motherboard has, and powersupplys just make me feel warm all over.
Don't be a hardware virgin, take apart an old PC, and try to put it back together again..There's nothing like the excitement of the first time.

I nearly had a heart attack when I read that!!! Impossible! Even before I became a programmer, I was building my own PCs. How could anyone not know how!?
I love the act of building my PC from scratch, using the best quality components and tender loving care that only I could give. I've been building computers since I was fourteen years old...How could a programmer not know!?

I think the thing is that some of us live and breathe computers, and others, while good at what they do, prefer to do other things in their own time, so only learn what they have to to do their jobs.

I pretty much always end up with cuts on my hands too when I've been messing with the innards of a PC. I usually don't notice until about an hour later (I guess when the adrenaline has died down from the anger aimed at the computer for whatever reason it wasn't working that made me have to open it in the first place!)

I started working life as an Electronic Technician working for Marconi. I did a four year apprenticeship, which meant I had to work in lots of different places learning the trade. I always had cut and burns on the ends of my fingers. (By the way, has anyone noticed how burnt flesh smells like roast pork?)
I now have a degree, and get told off if I even touch a soldering iron, as I'm doing the technicians out of a job!! 20% of the time I design hardware, and the other 80% is spent writing the software for it. I used to enjoy tinkering with PCs and software, but now that I spend so much time in from of a PC, and can't stand the sight of them!! I don't even have a PC at home anymore, I gave it away!
I'd like to go back to being an electronic technician, but with the wage of a hardware/software engineer!

Hey, the Xbox is rather cute.
Using it to play "Halo" and "Mad Dash racing", since very few interesting titles are out here in germany yet.
But soon, "NightCaster" should appear
