Compress audio data

Hello,
I am looking to get input from 2 sound cards and then do compression on the data. Can I get some assistance on this?

What I know at this point is that DirectX can be used for getting the speech input. But I need to know how can I do real time data and do real time compression on this?

I hope for a nice detailed message :)
