how to calculate distance with two given miles?

i will be having user zipcode. based on user zipcode i am converting them to latitude and longitude and storing in one table.

i will be having table called user preference where distance will be specified in miles say 40-80 miles. with this data i have to check all the users who will be from these zipcode from these 2 miles. pls help...
