Hey guys,
So I am doing a third year university economics unit concerning climate change. Myself and three others have been tasked with the following:
Your task is to design a market for due date trading for implementation in 2015. You will need to think and make decisions about the important design aspects of a trading scheme and you will be marked against how well you defend your decisions and how well you link your arguments to the literature.
We have designed a scheme whereby students will trade flexibility in selecting what the essay will contribute to their final mark for the unit, for their essay due date (e.g. more flexibility for earlier submissions, less flexibility for later submissions).
So to mathematically represent the flexibility concept, we have the equation Z = X +/- Y.
Z = What the essay contributes to your overall mark for the unit.
X = The initially allocated value of the essay, e.g. 20% (of overall mark for unit).
Y = Degree of flexibility (e.g. 5%).
So if X = 20% and Y = 5%, you can have your essay worth anywhere between 15% and 25% of your overall unit mark.
In reality, we have decided that X = 30% and Y = 15%. Everyone is initially given Y = 5% flexibility for free and they can use this to trade/barter for various due dates. For example, "I will hand my essay in 2 days earlier so that you can hand your essay in 2 days later – if you give me 1.5% flexibility".
Anyway, we have reached the point in the essay where we need to come up with a platform for facilitating the aforementioned trades. We basically need to keep track of the stock of due dates and the stock of flexibility for everyone in the class and have a system whereby one can easily trade flexibility for due date.
Does anyone know of a pre-packaged online software platform which can do this? Otherwise, can anyone think of a simple way to do this?
The platform would require people to be able to create an account, select a password, trade with other users and have the ability for a moderator to oversee what trades have taken place and stocks of Y and due date that each person has.
