In the sense of form design I believe there is an approach that you should use

i.e. Save, Cancel, Close

Can anyone please let me know if I am correct, if not then point me to a good resource

Thanks
Simon

p.s I am asking this as my GoogleFu isn't functioning today

My personal opinion is having both a Cancel and Close button is redundant unless you have some very specific reason for having both.

Agree with above comment, no need to have close & cancel button together. Why you want close & cancel together?

I believe that there is a design guide to the button names / actions for any given form and that is what I am trying to find. to be honest as I can't find it I named the above Actions to hopefully highlight what I am trying to do, rather than what I am doing if that makes sense

I personally don't like the "Save" button either. It should be saved as user types or selects something. If you go with this approach, then all you need is a "cancel" button that will not save or clear everything that user has typed. "Close" can make sense you disable the toobox on the form.

I am not sure that I have chosen the correct button name so to be honest I have guessed this purely for the question. Currently in my application I have a close button which handles the save, update, delete rountines accordingly.

But I am sure that there is a prefered HCI approached hence the question.
