How to create a mouse shadow on a custom cursor

I've found a site which talks about the default cursor color and mask bitmaps. It even goes so far as to mention that you'll need to and and xor the bitmaps in. But how do you do that in VB.net? I can capture the mouse and can access the bitmaps in the ICONINFO structure but am not sure how to create the shadow...
