Someone confused me that the .(dot) used in the term .net resembles something.I know it's silly; but does it exists? as I did'nt heard anywhere about this .(dot) thing ever.If it exists then I need hint about it that what is is and why do we use it?

This question is not for posting here, things like this are googled, searched at wikipedia, answer.com etc

basically .(dot) shows the members of any object. and may be, and it is only used in OOP so .net specifies that is OOP platform (OOP=object oriented programming)

but may be it doesn't hold any meaning and Microsoft has used it only for branding the product. no logic behind it...

see the answer below as He alo didn't got help from google in initial search.
I've been a .net developer for over 12 years now and up until this point, have never given a second's thought to what the dot in dot net could mean besides being a dot. An initial google search on this topic hasn't cleared things up either:

https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&gl=uk&q=.net+dot[^]

I hate to kill the mystery off so quickly, but I think it's just a name, just as an Oracle database doesn't know everything despite it's name and the Eclipse IDE doesn't block out the sun or moon.
