Implementing Caching in web-service

Hi All,

I have a web-service made in asp.net 2.0 which returns data in xml format, the response time of webservice is around 3 to 6 seconds on production. As such it is fine but client wants the response to be more faster, so I am planning to implement caching. Can some1 tell me how much peformance increase could caching help and which caching type should i implement?
