I'm seeing the tags embedded and linux - and I'm reading MSDE which is a windows thingy. Is this something you have tried, or otherwise know will work?

Even if this is possible to do using Windows emmulation on Linux, I wouldn't count on its stability.

Take a look at http://www.firebirdsql.org/[^], it's a fully featured RDBMS, and it runs natively on linux.
