Allowio with Borland Pascal in WinXP

I am trying to access an on-board parallel port using Pascal in WinXP. I have written the port write/read code using Inline ASM code and invoked "Allowio" on the Pascal program. I write bytes to the port (in this case 0x378) but find that only the two (2) least significant data bits respond. Reading the port confirms what was written. Does anyone know what is happening. I would have expected the program to either work completely of just fail. Please forgive this old mans ignorance. Any insight will be appreciated. THANKS
