Can anyone recommend a book on web development basics? I know a little HTML and would like to know how to program a website from scratch. I'm old fashioned and want a real hard copy book so I can page through it.

What I have tried:

I have found lots of good on-line tutorials but I want a real book.

FIRST CHOOSE WHICH TECHNOLOGIES YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE
i.e python , asp.net or php , ruby on rails and so on

Which would you recommend? My goal is to start small, write my own code, and gradually expand to building my own store.
