I am not sure but seems the SSMS since the Denali version, one can notice the bottom line "Powered by Visual Studio" in the splash screen that appears just before the login screen appears when you start SSMS.
Now my question is, can any one provide the link to the official blog or documentation where the detailed information is provided for understanding what exactly are taken from Visual Studio?

Note: I understand that, SSMS has many features those were already available in Visual Studio like Advanced Scrollbar, Theme, Box Selection/Edit and many. I want to know the story behind the tagline "Powered by Visual Studio". Is anything like same engine or set libraries or something is being used for both of them ?

Sorry, if this is very basic question but could not able to locate the correct documentation or official reference.

What I have tried:

Tried searching with following keywords in Bing -
-- SSMS powered by Visual Studio
-- SQL Server Management Studio Powered by Visual Studio
-- Relation between Visual Studio and SSMS
and few others but no relevant reference found.

Try the SQL pages on MSDN.

Hi Richard !
Thanks for the suggestion.
Well, I am already busy searching them in MSDN and no luck so far and thus I thought if anybody already has the references to those documentation can be helpful for me and hence posted here.

Thanks :)

It means it's based on Visual Studio Isolated Shell[^] rather than written as a unique stand alone product.

Perfect!
Overlooked this while searching. This is just the perfect thing I was looking for. Thanks @OriginalGriff for all your help :)

Will spend some quality time reading about this and how extensibility works using this.
