Hi, I come from a background with zero knowledge of computers and programming but my realization of the current and future vision of the digital world makes me think that programming is an modern man's indisputable skills to possess. So I decided to learn programming, I started with codecademy.com of some basic HTML and basic command lines. As a result, I managed to grasp the essence of programming and got the feel on how it operates and works. etc Hello, world.

As my job involves heavily on translating English words into Mandarin characters, it is extremely troublesome and time consuming on translating manually solely rely on my translation skills or language conversion ability.

In order to achieve deadline and secure customer's satisfaction, I employed translation apps currently on the market. It accelerates my translation process and minimize the time for "conversion" . The machine convert the sentences into mandarin characters, all i have to do is to proofread and correct grammar mistake.

Among many translation apps currently available in the market, SDL translation apps is my absolute favorite.

Despite its helpfulness, I found that there are things that can be improved on. For example, machine translation usually translate literally for word-for-word or character to character basis. The problem arises when the meaning of sentences is derived on the words units instead of the sentences.

For example, the common Mandarin expression of " 马马虎虎 " denotes " perfunctory; doing things without sincerity. The character 马 literally means Horse and 虎 is Tiger. Therefore, the translation outcome by machines without the culturally intelligence embedded on is " Horse horse tiger tiger."

Having seen this type of malfunction, my goal is first to create a basic language translation apps and later to make it intuitively accurate.

Hope to get as much information from the community here and me myself can be a good of hand as an outsider ( business & PR background ) point of view .

Best regards,
Laufeyson
