How to redirect to the root home page on sharepoint logo click?

The default behavior of the sharepoint logo when clicked is to redirect to the site home page. I want to alter this behavior. The website logo when clicked should redirect to the main site collection home page even when clicked from subsites which reside inside of the Root site. I have a Sharepoint 2013 Foundation setup installed.

What I have tried:

Have tried changing spsitelink to splinkbutton with navigateurl="~sitecolllection/" in the master page. This did not work for me. Pls help...
