Can we update an list item in sharepoint using custom id column using rest api or we have to update only using sharepoint default id column

I have a doubt that,

can we update an list item in sharepoint based on custom id column using rest api or we have to update only by using sharepoint default ID column.
Actually we update using ID column but need a clarification is der any possibility or not.

What I have tried:

I previously tried with Sharepoint Default ID column don't know can we use Custom ID column or not
