Opps. I meant "app", application. You have to use WshShell.Run to run an outside .EXE, custom written to clear the cache for your script.

Hi
I'm just into vb data base programing got a problem at hand, im working on a address book, i've successfully incorporated the data grid control and now its showing the matching records as I enter text in a text box from an access data base in a data grid in real time. Now all I want to do is to give my user an option to print all the matching records that come up during the search in the data grid as well as the selected records from that search since im new to this please any help in this regards is greatly apriciated
if anyone can point me to a sample project of this sort it will be nice

i didn't want to use crystal reports.. anyway I've found a way using data report, and dataenvironment.
With DataEnvironment1
.Commands(2).CommandType = adCmdText
.Commands(2).CommandText = "SELECT Query"

DataReport2.Show

There's about a dozen different ways to do this. It all depends on what you want to put up as an interface to the user. The simplest way is to put up an InputBox ask the user for a path. Is this in VBScript, VB, or VB.NET?

If that's all you want, then InputBox will work:

path = InputBox("Enter filename and path to save to", "Save")
fSaveGuiToFile (path)

This method, of course, does no checking to see if the path entered is valid. A better method would be to create your own SaveAs dialog box.

I know this sounds a bit demanding. But can u please do me the favor again....

If your using VB6, go to the Project/Components menu (or hit Ctrl-T), then put a check mark next to Microsoft Common Dialog Control 6.0. Then click OK. You'll see a new icon in the Toolbox, called CommonDialog. This will let you put up a standard Save dialog. Check this[^] link out for an example and the docs on the control on MSDN.

I would like to have an "input-field" to show the location, "browse" to select the location , and save to "save" the file.

Like you said, it's just a text file with each field seperated by some kind of delimitter, usually a comma or tab character. Are you asking how to write to a text file?

The is no Package and Deployment Wizard in VB.NET. You can't do it using the standard Visual Studio Installer projects. You'll have to create a custom install application (Setup.exe). Search the articles on CP for "bootstrap", or for the same on GotDotNet.com. You'll come up with a few projects that'll do what you want.

There's no "open file" in a richtextbox - it's all edited in memory. When you load a file in the richtextbox, you'll need to store the name of the file in a string variable, if you want to use it later.

You don't have to call any conversion functions as VBScript does not know any types other than variant (see also VBScript Data Types[^]) and any subtype conversion can be done implicitly.
MyString = "2"
MyDouble = MyString + 2
However if you want (or need) to explicitly cast the variant subtype you can do so by using the VBScript conversion function (see also section Conversions in VBScript Features[^]).
MyString = "2"
MyInt = CInt(MyString) + 2
