i'm struggling to find information on how to run a program in process with outlook on a Smart device that uses pocket pc premium 2003
my problem is that i need to find a way to launch a vb.net application when an appointment in outlook is tapped on the pda...
i would really appreciate it if someone could give me some guidence in this aspect, any helpful web sites or tools that i could use to find a solution would be a great help too, i'm currently in the process of dveloping a system for a third year project and i could use all the help or hints i can get...

Anybody got the ToTitleCase method of the TextInfo Class to work? Is there another way to format strings to ProperCase of TitleCase without using the strconv function?

It seems that the TextInfo.ToTitleCase method only works on lower case strings or strings whose first character is in lower case. Anybody know why this is so?

We recently upgraded to VS.NET 2003 and I am wondering if there is a way to switch .Net Framework versions I am developing with. If they put out vresion 2.x how do I use it with the environment I currently have?

Basically, you can't. VS.NET 2002 targeted the .NET Framework 1.0, VS.NET 2003 targeted the .NET Framework 1.1 and VS.NET 2005 will target 2.0. You application can be compiled to work on previous versions of the .NET Framework provided you don't use any features that are only available in the higher versions of the Framework. For example, in VS.NET 2003, you can compile your app to work under both .NET Framework version 1.0 and 1.1, provided you only use 1.0 features and classes. But you can't use VS.NET 2002 with the .NET Framework 1.1 and target the .NET Framework 1.1, you can only target the .NET Framework 1.0.
The same will be true when 2.0 comes out. You'll be able to use VS.NET 2003 with the .NET Framework 2.0, but you will only be able to target the .NET Framework 1.0 and 1.1. In order to compile a 2.0 app, you'll need VS.NET 2005.

Im new to VB.net in fact before then i hadnt touched VB since 5... in either case, im using VB to write Scripts to interact with Macromedia flash. Pretty much all it does is create these scripts out of a database and then Starts them as a process. Part of System.Diagnostics... My problem is Macromedia Flash has alot of overhead and reacts slowly, also after the loop i need to reorganize all the files. Ive got everything set up to do this. But VB is running too quickly, once the loop is done, it deletes the files, before flash is done with them. Thus causing an exception. Is there anyway of SLOWING down VB?

You really can't change the execution speed of the code. I'm no Flash developer by any means, so...
The only thing you can do is try and find some kind of event or something else appropriate that can signal your app that Flash has completed its job. Watching for this event will be the tricky part. I have no idea how to do it or what to watch for.
Also, you could put your app to Sleep for X number of seconds, but it's very unreliable considering you can't determine ahead of time how long you have to wait for Flash to finish.

I would also see if you could find a better way to do this, but in case you are interested, you can use one of the system.Threading.Thread.Sleep overloads to pause your app.

I have some color settings that I want to obtain when one of my forms load from an ini file to which the values in the file were set using the Color.toString method -> Color [A=255, R=255, G=128, B=0] or Color [Maroon]. I know there is the ColorConverter class that would be able to translate the Maroon color after I extracted the color String, but is there an easy way to extract the color from the string containing the numeric values? Or is there a better way of outputting the color to the ini file instead of using the toString method?

Hi
I am using FSO (Microfoft File System Object dll) to move TIF image files from a network shared folder A to another network share B in vb6.
If I want to move a single file from A to B, does the number of images in either folder matter in terms of effects on speed?
I am experiencing an huge slug in speed if I increase the number of files in A, even if I want to move only a small fraction of the files in A to B.
My thinking is that FSO actually has to search for an image before moving it.
Is there a difference to FSO (or Windows 2000 file system) if folder A has 20,000 files compared to when folder A has 100 TIF files?

If your using the FSO Folder class, then yes, there is a huge difference in speed. This is because the Folder object is enumerating all the files in the folder to populate its Files collection.
If your using the FSO.CopyFile method, no there shouldn't be a huge difference in speed, but there will be a difference. Unless you have those 20,000 files sitting on a FAT volume...please say it isn't so!

I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a link to a file in your directory from inside a textbox. What i have is a list of files that the user selects placed inside a textbox. I would like to make it possible to link to each of those files but am unsure how to do it. any help? thanks in advance!!!

What do you mean by "link"? Put a shortcut on the desktop, or open the file, or what? You'll have to be more specific as to what your refering to.

sorry for being so vague. What I am doing is listing user selected files with their paths inside a textbox. I would like to make a link from these files so when you click on them you open them up. They are pdf files. Would a richTextBox work or a listBox? thanks for your help!!

ListView would be the way to go. Each line is click-able and double-click-able, so you able to handle each of these events on a line-by-line basis. All your doing is adding the path (a String) to the ListView's Items collection. When the user clicks, or double-clicks, on a line, your code can use the Process classes to start the .PDF file that was clicked on.

Try to find any document about RichTextBox control. You might be able to do it as what you want.

Are you sure you want to use a textbox??? try a listbox. It´s waaaaay more efficient for such a task as the one you describe, because you can use the _DblClick() event:

so when i use this listbox, can i have each line in the box goto a different file? each line in my box is path to a pdf file. i would to have them open each specific file when they are clicked on. thanks

Exactly. Each line of the 'list' would show something like:
1----------------1/\
1c-standards.pdf 1*1
1vb_reference.pdf1 1
1my_book1.pdf 1 1
1etc.pdf 1 1
1-----------------\/
And when you 'Dbl_Click()' on any item (...with the code I showed you) you´ll exec every file to launch the default pdf reader and show it to the user. neat

Is there an easy way to clear multiple controls?
Fore example; I have 20 textBoxes, 10 radioButtons and 5 checkBoxes in a form. Is there a single command that will set ALL:
textbox.text = ""<br />
radioButton.checked = False<br />
checkbox.checked = False

No, there isn't. You'll have to create a function that enumerates and clears them, one by one.

I think you could use control array to do that, for example:

There are no control arrays in VB.NET like there were in VB6. You have to enumerate the form's Controls collection to get at them.
