The ratings system is still in its infancy and we are waiting to see how it goes for a few more weeks before making any changes. There is always a balance between a perfect system and a system that can handle the load. We need to ensure that by increasing the complexity of some of the scripts (ratings, comments) we don't inadvertantly hog resources and slow down general page access.
Still - we're all learning and we'll get there eventually!

Plus what does a "3" or "2" rating mean - that the code sucks, the text is poorly written (speka da english), that you didn't find it useful, or you hate the person? Sometimes you read an article and think it is good but dont want to put it in your browser bookmarks because you work at different machines.....
How about a "bookmark" facility (assumes the user has to log in in some way - not an unreasonable request for such a facility)?

A suggestion for the forums and comments... the year is displayed as "00" instead of "2000". I'd suggest changing it to 2000. Just a pet peeve of mine.

It would be nice to sort the forum in the threaded views the way the old CodeGuru did: sort by the date of the most recent message in the thread rather than the oldest.
Keep up the good work. This site is very useful and visually much better (more signal, less noise, easier navigation) than either the old or the new (earthweb) versions of CodeGuru.

The code which is usually present in a sumbmitted article, should clearly differentiate between the code and comments lines present in it through different colour codes. It is not convenient that the colour of comments within code is the same as that of the code.

These user comments were very valuable in reporting bugs and providing further enhancements - this feedback is very also useful in deciding if a piece of code is worth downloading in the first place.
Are there plans to include "user feedback" associated with each of the code postings? (I hope so.)

1. Adverts:
Do you want to be paid for placing the banners below articles? No serious site is doing this, please. Besides this is not anything to please programmers, if you think you are doing it for them.
With immediately effect! start placing banners above the
"article of the week" column.
2. Comments:
Your personal desire seems to be overriding popular demand here for comments on articles. If all that is needed is to post codes, many sites are already available for this-even shareware sites like winfiles.com do post codes.
a. A lot post codes and articles to help get jobs, and to them the current site will be enough.
b. Many leak codes from their projects to get others review it and improve it. These IT professionals will hardly wish to waste time here. Even if it is to use others codes, the comments will make the IT confident-no one wish to download "headaches".
c. For many of us hobbyists, the comments and suggestions make us know how much we rate. Even, MSJ is posting articles with comments and rating sections so do we still have to continue to justify this?
Demands for comments section started with this site and initially many of us just decided to look on since there was more work for you to do. Now, the site is up running and if this feature is still not there then there is only one meaning-you do not want to do it. In this case please do let us know since most of us are still evaluating this site to determine whether it is worth a full commitment. The main reason for many leaving the codeguru.developer.com is that the owners care more of decos than the needs of the developer-the "blue snake" is still up there covering codes.
Now, let us know your stand for it is about time.

As you can see the ability to add comments to articles is now in place. Uwe has spent a lot of time working on the script, and it took a few weeks for him and I to get it working to our satisfaction.
While you may think the site is "up and running" please be assured that what you see is barely the beginning. The article backlog is still large, and the amount of work to do before I can sit back and relax is more than I care to think about.
Please remember that we are less than 2 months old. There is a long way to go, but we are off to a great start.

I seem to be experiencing some kind of strange happening where I scroll back up to the top of the main page and when the nav bar is about to display (next scroll up) my machine hangs. I have had this happen before with graphics that overlap and IE getting confused about how to draw them. It is a pretty serious lockup of my machine requiring a manual reset.
Running IE5 5.00.2314.1003IC and NT 4.00 build 1381.
This has only started happening with the site since the graphical nav bar has been put in (I think - unless I was ignoring it before).

Here is my question about Latest Updates.
When I saw that Erwin Tratar is the winner of Code Project Visual C++ competition, I ask myself how I missed his article, and then I found that his article is not present in a list of latest updates.
Does this mean that some article instead of appearing in a latest update going directly into appropriate section? This is important to know, because like many other people I check latest updates on a daily basis and only when needed I go into appropriate sections.

Erwin's article was posted on the 4th, and unfortunately there was a problem with a script I was using that day that caused article not to appear in the "latest" list. I made some manual corrections but obviously Erwin's article missed out. Sorry about that (and apologies to Erwin) All other articles should have an entry in the Latest page.

This is just to note a problem. I just responded to a question involving templates. Due to the usage of the lt and gt signs some of the code was taken as html. this made the question and the reply rather unreadable. I tired adding the pre tag but that had no effect. Any suggestions?

I haven't tried this yet, but it may work. Try bracketing your code in <plaintext></plaintext> tags. PLAINTEXT treats the text as just text, and turns off HTML tag parsing.

If a poster has not supplied an email address, zir name still appears as an active mailto: link in the Sender column, but with no target address. In this case, the name in the Sender column should probably just be plain text with no link.

First of all let me tell you what a great site you have created! Nice looks, good code, GREAT WORK! A worthy successor to the departed CodeGuru site.
Suggestion: Put the article contents (html,gifs, the works) into the ZIP files. This would make it somewhat easier to "store" a project for later inspection.

Looks like things are taking off well. Good job to you and all the others helping.
One item that would help me is on the discussion pages add the Prev/Next records links to the bottom of the list as well as the top. I am generally scrolling down the page and then have to scroll back up to go to the next page.

I love this site. Good job with setting it up (big relief after the Code Guru fiasco).
Here are a couple of suggestions that would make it easier to move around in the forums:
- I set my view preference to "linear" when I registered. Now there is no clear way to get back to a preferences page to reset my preference to default to "threaded".
- When I am reading a message, there are "reply", "subscribe", "previous", "next", "return", and "home" navigation links, but it would be nice to have:
- A banner to tell me what folder I'm in when reading a message.
- A "folder" or "top" navigation link to take me to the folder view. Otherwise, I have to hit my browser's back button or the "return" link repeatedly if I've been browsing a thread sequentially, hitting "next message" over and over.
- The ability to edit or delete messages I've previously posted to the forum.
