Classes or Namespaces?
It's entirely up to you. You could go an add ALL the namespaces to each project, but some of them will require you to add the references for them too.
You would have to make your own project templates to add these to every project you make though. You can't tell VS.NET to just add these namespaces to every project, they must be put into the project templates.
When the project is built, all the unnecessary references and namespaces are ignored and not put into the final .EXE or .DLL.

Perhaps I still don't understand the differences between classes and namespaces. I thought the namespaces pointed to the classes (and structures).

Namespaces, I would say to categorize a set of classes. Say, you have classes SqlClient, OracleClient. These two belong to Data manipulation. So, they can be a part of the namespace Data. code may go like this
Namespace System.Data
Public Class SqlClient
Sub SqlConnection ()
End Sub
End Class
Public Class OracleClient
Sub OracleConnection()
End Sub
End Class
End Namespace
Here in this case, if you import System.Data you will have access to both SqlClient and OracleClient classes directly.
Else if you just import System Namespace, you will have to refer to these classes as follows
Dim s as Data.SqlClient
Dim o as Data.OracleClient
I would say namespaces or just for the sake of simplicity in code. So, one namespace is a group of multiple classes.

A namespace is a collection of related classes.
You don't instantiate a namepsace, but you do to use a class.

This harkens back to my Excel.Interop issue.
The book example (and the CD file examples) have just the shortened namespace includes at the top, but I had to use the fully qualified namespace in order to get the syntax errors to go away. I can find nothing in the example code that differs from mine, but they don't seem to have to use the full names.

Visual Basic .NET Step-By-Step and then Visual Basic .NET Programming by Peter Aiken.
Taking the (me) out and leaving just () worked, but I had to manually stop the program when I was done, not just by using the x, but by using the stop option in the Debug menu. There are two forms, one has two command buttons, the first command button opens the second form and closes the first, the second command button opens the second form but doesn't close the first. The second form only has a command button for closing itself.
It was kind of strange, I was looking at the MCSD/MCAD Windows Applications book too, and there was a garbage collection demo that stored so many bits into memory and supposidly if I sat there long enough and waited, it would start to destroy them. I waited...and waited...and waited. Nothing.
I just cleaned off my primary drive and reinstalled Win2K about a month ago (I have XP Pro on my laptop).

I have a vb.net windows application which sends out faxes. It works OK but it seems like the Fax service on Win 2000 hangs after a while. It works fine, as soon as the machine is re-booted. I'm not sure whats causing this. Is there some setting to set the fax service right? Or is my code causing probs?
This is my code:

Hello,
I make a program in Vb. net with uses crystal reports, and when i install the program in a pc with windows xp or 98 and i try to view the crystal report and exception raises,
Cannot find KeycodeV2.dll, or invalid Keycode.
Anywone know how to fix this?

This doesn't make any sense. Are you talking about controlling the Notepad application from an application that you are writing?
There is no such thing as "overwriting the existing Notepad". Notepad is an application, you can't overwrite it. Are you talking about copying and pasting text?
You going to have to be a bit more clear on what your trying to accomplish.

i'll try to make it clear this time
im trying to read some value that is available inside a .txt file
then the application will do some calculation
later the result of the calculation will be appended to a new .txt file
example i read value from info.txt then save the output in out.txt
i hope this is clearer than the one i write before

You're talking about simply reading and writing values to/from text files. See this[^] on MSDN for a quick example.

I was wondering if anybody knew how to put controls such as (listview, and a monthcalendar) on a mdi parent window and have it stay behind the child forms that open. Because for space saving i was wanting to put these controls on the Main window(MDI Parent) for easy access when child windows weren't in front. But when I open a child window the controls on mdiparent overlap the child form. Is there a quick way to prevent this from happening. I'm sure there is>

There is no way to get the controls to be on top of the child windows, but you can change the size of the MDIClient area in the MDIParent form. This will allow you to put your controls on the Parent Form above the MDIClient area. It's buried and the documentation on changing this is non-existent because it involves classes and functions that are only meant to be used internally to the .NET Framework.
I'll write something up when I get home tonight.

What I'm trying to do , is not have them go on top of the child windows,as they will only be necessary when they are visible. It's having a main window with a listview and a calendar control on it, then when I open a child window I don't want those visible, currently when I open a child window, the Controls on the main window display on top of the child windows, and this is what i would like to prevent. Thanks , and I must say, when you go through the message board, you are one of the primary problem solvers, good job, and thanks.

I got you email with the images. It looks like the calendar control will take up a bunch of screen space. When you not using the controls, why not just set their Visible properties to False? Or, better yet, just display the controls in a modal dialog box when you need them and get any data you need from that?

The reason I was wanting to put those controls in the main window , is most people that i'm making this program for, only use 800 x 600 screen settings and opening a second child window takes up too much space inside the main window with my current program version. So figured if i put them on the back of the main window they'd always be visible if needed, and there when not needed. Thanks for your help, probably go with the visible property route, i had thought about that, but wasn't certain if this would be the best route.

Putting them on top of the Child windows would probably confuse them. Looking at other applications, the standard is to put controls that are used only once in a while onto a modal dialog form to get input like that. Just having a control pop up in the middle of their document would be confusing.

The thing is I'm not wanting the controls to show through the child window.. If you were to create a mdi window and throw some controls on it, then have a child window open inside that mdi window. The controls that you put on the mdi window show through the Child window, as if the the controls are infront of the child window you just opened. I was trying to prevent this, easily, but taking your suggestion. I'm setting the visibilty property of the controls that are on the main window to false when a mdi child window opens, and setting them back to true when the child window closes.

1. How to make a windows service that its icon display on the task bar?
2. How to show a form when we click the icon?
3. I have problem when starting the windows service, if the service have a windows component such as notifyicon, timers etc. If i am using timers from windows component instead of system.timers.timers, the error "System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException" will come out when we start the service. Could the windows service use windows component?
4. does the "timers" is elapsed every time according to the interval or just elapse once for the first time when the timers is enabled?

Your Service would have to include a Form that you can put a NotifyIcon component on. When you service is installed, you'll have to go into the Services Control Panel and tag your service and "Allow interaction with Desktop". Make sure your Form's ShowInTaskbar property is set to False and it's Style is set to Minimized.

It can use Windows components, but you have to have a host form to put the components on AND tag your service as "Allow interaction with Desktop" in the Services Control Panel.

When you Enable the timer, it will NOT fire the Elapsed event until the specified interval has elapsed first. It will continue to fire Elapsed events every Interval milliseconds, wheather your ready for them or not, until the timer is no longer enabled.
