In the old (read: CRT) days, TVs in wooden cabinets were popular. When the TV was not in use, you closed the doors (usually in teak, mahogany or other 'high class' wood) and the TV set looked like another cupboard.

I have also seen one in birch wood with wood carvings in Norwegian 'rose painting' style - very decorative! I suspect that was made by the owner of the TV set, not the TV manufacturer.

(Another side of the issue: '... when the TV is off' ?? When is that, in a US home? Smile | :) )
