I think it was Arkansas (maybe Louisiana?) where they have a trigger law (that they're already enforcing apparently) where a woman has to carry an ectopic pregnancy to term.
If we're talking about stupid laws.

I think that the "best" attempt to pass a stupid law was the Indiana Pi Bill. 
How anyone, even a politician, could believe that mathematical identities are subject to legislative fiat is beyond mortal ken.

It will come as a surprise to precisely nobody that the actual story isn't quite as moronic as the headline makes it sound. 
Quote: Under CESA, "endangered species" can be birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, or fish. Insects like bees do not make the cut, under this definition.
However, the judges interpreted that it was "ambiguous" whether the legislature intended for the definition of fish to apply only to aquatic species.

So instead of encouraging the CESA to expand its list of species that could be endangered to include insects necessary to our survival the court decided to use some convoluted legal rationalizations to include them. I wouldn't expect anything different from California.

It's stupid to do it that way instead of the proper way, but of course 80% of what programmers do is the same thing: actually solve the root issue? Nah, let's work around it with another layer of wrappers.

Which would be the correct solution, but could potentially take years to do.

To include them now.
They probably considered that getting the added protections in place quickly via "convoluted" means was better than waiting years for the "right" solution to kick in.

Still somewhat baffled. Don't understand the role of the word "rejecting" and "two prizes" seems very specific to refer to the "pot" - maybe "all prizes"???
