All the claims about users being not "safe" enough, forget passwords, two factors authentication, etc. etc. etc.

And what can we users do against something like this?

5 years... 5 frigging years...

And then people call me paranoid only because I format and reinstall from a clean backup image once or twice a year... D'Oh! |
Such processes should be mandatory for some kind of companies... just in case.

Heck I implanted something similar in the factory abroad when I was responsible for it when upgrading to next release. Redundant hardware (A+B) getting asynchron (A // B), go back to the OS-image done at the end of previous release upgrade in B, upgrade B to the current new release, add all specific configuration in B, set A offline, do needed tests in production with B, set B as active when done, do an image of B. Repeat with A. Activate synchronization again. Save those full images in an offline HDD, activate incremental backup in the online HDD. See you next year.

This way you always have a clean image, in case of your active backup getting compromised. Changes done during the year can be "diffed" using virtual machines. Mostly not needed because there is a good protocol of what is done in server, when by whom.

It adds a some hours (maybe a couple of days) of work comparing it with the "on the fly" methode, but it can save you A LOT of problems.
M.D.V. Wink | ;)

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.
