then collection would hold a reference to B. not a copy but a reference
thats where I'm confused with this c# thing because
to pass by value MyMethod object obj) pass the value or a copy
so to pass by reference = MyMethod( ref object obj )
and thats where I got foobar'd in that you cannot pass by reference an indexer
MyMethod( ref CollectionA[0] );
so thats what I'm asking.
The scenario is this I have to have a main collection for the datagrid, it cant concatenate multiple collections. Yes they are all the same type but belong to sevreral different parent objects.
Thats my whole dilemna. I have written a workaround but I dont like nor want to keep it because the code will get very intricate over the next week and will cause debugging issues.

When you pass a reference type, it is always passed as a reference, because a variable of a reference type always holds a reference to the value, not the actual value.
When you pass a reference type by reference, something interesting happens - a reference to the variable that holds the reference is passed. If you change that variable, the original variable will also hold the new reference.

Hiya I need to get WSAStartup in working C#.
I have done this to get the function loaded in the project:

[DllImport("wsock32.dll")]
static extern int WSAStartup( uint wVersionRequested,LPWSADATA lpWSAData );

The problem is that I don't know the namespace that LPWSADATA uses.
This anyone know what the namespace is for this structure??

I don't think there is a public declaration of the WSADATA structure in any namespace Microsoft provides.
Typically, writing in managed code, you don't need to call WSAStartup directly, using code in the System.Net.Sockets namespace will take care of calling it automatically for you.
Is there some reason System.Net.Sockets isn't doing what you want?

The simple reason is I am much more comfortable with using WSAStartup sockets.
I am not to sure how to use C# sockets as I am only learning C# (not sockets) the last few weeks.
My objective is display a list of network users and their IP Addresses. Thats all i want to do..
If somebody can plz show me how to do this in c#, I would be very grateful.

I just made a little application...
It uses xp visual sytles & a sql 2000 database...
Usually on my normal apps(that don't use visual styles or sql), I can just make a quick installer, or just copy the whole file to the other computer and use the application...
Now, with sytles and sql it wont...
What are the special things I have to do to get the app to run on other computers???

If you are using NET Framework 1.0 you have to add a manifest file to your project and choose the build action of that file to content. The manifest file should follow the naming convention yourappname.exe.manifest and its content should include the following:

sql 2000 database
Your setup project has to check if SQL Server or MSDE is installed before it actually installs your program. This is done by creating a Launch Condition in the setup project. You also need to create the database on the user's computer. This is done by creating a Custom Action in your setup project.
Also, in case SQL Server or MSDE is not present, you might want to include a MSDE installation in your setup project. This can also be done creating a Custom Action in your setup project.

I'm creating a file in a dll with:
invoke CreateFile, addr logfile, GENERIC_READ or GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_READ or FILE_SHARE_WRITE, 0, CREATE_ALWAYS, 0, 0
and then trying to open it for read access with:
fs = new FileStream("whlog.log", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read);
which always gives me:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.IO.IOException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: The process cannot access the file "C:\<path>\whlog.log" because it is being used by another process.
What gives?

simply what it said either your program has already attached to it without a share or you have not released it yet in previous code. You might check the application tabs on task manager and see if your program did not shutdown correctly. Its happened to be during devlopment before
