Now the channel setup. Getting rid of the pre-picked junk and putting in useful stuff.
If you happen to get more ROKU's and register them to the same account then when you add an item to one you add it to all (but not necessarily logins, if any!). Mine are actually shut off when not in use (they suck a surprising amount of power) and are powered on/off with the TV through a smart power strip. Because of this, it goes through its startup routine every time which, aside from the visible dancing Roku includes looking for updates and downloading any new channels you added to any other Roku devices.
The ROKU (top) level search is skewed towards paid-stations and they almost certainly get a nice kickback.
Weather4US is a good (handy) weather channel if you just want the weather.
A lot of the remainder becomes personal taste. One last note, however, is that there are "private" channels available for Roku. What "private" means is that it's not in Roku's built-in selection list. They still connect up the same way and are, to some extent, know and authorized by Roku. If they don't like a channel for some reason they get disappeared from your selections without a word. I've lost a few that way.

I only have the channels I've paid for, and removed the crap ones (google, vudu, and roku getting started).
So are you saying if I register a new roku device, the crap channels will be re-added? You would think the new device would be configured the same way as an existing device (if an existing device was found), or at the very least, you'd be prompted to use the same settings as the existing device...

Fortunately, in my experience, the new one will show a screen of channels like your existing ones.
Unfortunately (maybe) the arrangement of channels on one doesn't effect the arrangement on the others, so, when you move them into a more useful setup it's got to be done for each device. For example, you add a new really great channel and move it near the top. It will need to be moved on each Roku individually. Initially, however, new installs will look like your existing.
Some info's stored at Roku (like content, some logins), some on your device (sort order, some other logins).
You train each other.

Bought a new computer Tuesday!
In fact I am super happy with my acquisition, spent 1 hour scrutinizing Officeworks website.. Ordered online, go it today, sweet! 
The beats is sleek, and slim, and fast (for its purpose)! nice!
However, it comes with plenty of pre-installed uselessware, like antivirus. So I presto remove them (antivirus only cause me grief and never did any good) but I got struck by a vague remorse, could it be that today's antivirus are ok?
I.e. they don't spend time vampirising all your machine performance... 
It was McAfee Live Safe that I just removed.
What say you?

I'm using the free Avast antivirus software and it works fine. There were some complaints that it gathers user data, but you can turn that off in the settings.

You usually are happy with your choice unless something really strange happens on your computer, you install another one and that one tells you had a virus...
Those guys are an independent laboratory that stress all anti-virus softwares to check which one works well and which one don't.

I've used BitDefender for a few years now without any issues (except nagging reminders that my WiFi is "unsafe" if I don't use their (not great by all accounts) VPN).
Just NEVER accept the "special offer" to renew for next year. Leave it until a day or two before and that special offer is likely to be improved considerably (or just buy a licence online).

I'm using Kaspersky, so far it's the easiest on the CPU and does not break compatibility with old games or software. Also it's completely local, as opposed to Sophos that went cloud and now is configurable only through an Internet connection, is a cpu hog and will make some software fail silently without any possibility of excluding them.
NortNot and McCoughee are laughable, BitDefender came highly recommened and it basically killed two computers that I own so I avoid it, Avast and AVG became worse than the threats they supposedly protect from.

Kaspersky here as well.
Only one problem with it so far - it turned on banner reject in Chrome without asking and the CP ads disappeared. I had to find it and whitelist CP to get them back.

Windows defender, that's builtin is good enough and also quite unintrusive.

I've read various reviews to that effect, so I stopped paying for one. But I have to run periodic scans myself. Not that it should find anything if it's doing its job properly in the first place, but you never know. I haven't noticed a way to schedule this automatically but am probably missing something.

I used to use it years ago, but it always did a full scan on my system every afternoon - despite being told not to. Since this slugged the computer horribly, I moved to Kaspersky instead.
