Yeah, it's problem solving skill. But I am still not able to connect the context specifically to Hardware-Software.

If you come to a place where a machine that you didn't create or programmed is not working...
you have to first get an overview, group things that can act together, try to isolate the error what many times ends up with a try-error approach to find out which of the components is really giving the problem.
Pretty similar to the "generalization" of solving a puzzle.

Jigsaw is also a tool that cuts wood, thus "hardware". OP's attempt at being funny?
Before "jigsaw" puzzles were made of cardboard, they were made of wood. The wood cutting tool, known as a Jigsaw has a thin blade allowing intricate cuts to be made.
According to Google, they were first known as dissected puzzles and were then called "jigsaw" puzzles after the tool's name sometime in the later 1800's.
