It's almost all smoke and mirrors unfortunately. The biggest miners buy bare chips, build their own boards, and write their own drivers/firmware with the help of engineers poached from NVidia.
The next tier down won't be interested unless the cards are really cheap; they buy a few dozen to few hundred consumer gaming cards at a time (mostly from the same distributors who supply consumer facing retailers; meaning they're paying below sticker price) and resell them for near full price on the used market after about 6 months, so their actual price/card is close to zero.
Then at the lowest level you've got people who're mining on their gaming card to help pay for it. Mining only cards are useless to them.
Unless NVidia has a lot of dies with too many failed non-compute cores to make down-binned consumer models this isn't going to increase the total number of cards on the market; and with Etherium mining being profitable enough that buying gaming laptops for the embedded GPU is a thing, gimping consumer 3060s won't stop miners from buying them even if they can't hack the firmware throttle.
TSMC and Samsung are badly capacity limited so getting enough more cards/month soon isn't likely to happen. The supply situation's likely going to remain a cluster![Elephant | [mastadon]](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/elephant.gif) until there's either another broad crash of ponzicoin prices; or etherium successfully migrates from proof of pollution to proof of plutocracy mining without a high value GPU mined fork splitting off.
At least in the US the least awful ways to try and get a card are via Bestbuy (dribbles new cards out over 1-2 hour windows so in stock alerts have enough reaction time for human buyers), Newegg (doing free raffles for the right to buy a card, unfortunately often bundled with something else of questionable value), or if you have on close enough you can stop buy every morning to see if anything is in stock a Microcenter retail store. My 3070 came from Bestbuy about a month ago.

It was a premium model from EVGA at $570. Pricing was more or less in line with what that line normally sits above MSRP for a base model (I think it was EVGAs MSRP for the model at the time but am not sure); but predated the tariff price hikes that have hit almost everything over the last month (mine's now $630 list) or the scalping of anything that's showing as in-stock via 3rd party sellers.

Most windows installs don't have WSL installed; currently it's only doable via power shell. Meaning that your average luser can't accidentally install it futzing around in settings. As a multi-gig install I don't see it becoming a standard part anytime soon.
And because Chromebooks version of linux is locked down and only able to run Chrome and Android apps; not any of the normal linux software you'd get via apt/etc IMO it's really not much closer to a real linux desktop than your phone is if you plug a keyboard, mouse, and external monitor into its USB port via a hub.

All over the internet: Starting with version 69, Chrome OS users can use Linux applications. This is a game changer for Chrome OS, as it opens a massive catalog of available software.

How long, I wonder, before graphics chipset vendors stop bothering with Linux drivers for their chipsets.
Is such a small market share worth pursuing? Or is it worth it solely for the Linux-using opinion-former mindshare?
Linux is of course winning in the server marketplace but servers don't need graphics chipsets, other than in very basic terms. Then again, perhaps Linux driver development for GPUs/APUs used for parallel processing acceleration in servers makes ancillary development of Linux drivers for graphics-focussed chipsets relatively low cost. The Linux server saves the few remaining Linux desktop users, perhaps.

Windows 10 version 21H1 is official, and it's coming this spring. I guess they learned their mistake with Windows 10 2004?
